In the years leading up to WWII in Poland, “Stopthief,” takes up with a band of Jewish orphans and wants to be like them. But they know their fate and eye him with suspicion. When tiny, agile “Stopthief” begins to steal food to keep them alive, their feelings for him soften, and the welcoming arms of a Jewish family embrace him in warmth he has never experienced. As life inside the ghetto worsens, Stopthief becomes Misha, but the little boy refuses to shed his childlike optimism until a horrific denouement when all seems lost. This is an unforgettable story of love and our universal search for identity. |
