Details:

SCAT and CLOD are two young thugs - Scat the brains, Clod the brawn. Their specialty: targeting the elderly. They find the aged to be the perfect prey, soft targets that put up little resistance out of weakness or fear or both. And, as Scat is fond of saying, “old people have good shit.” The thugs’ latest target for entertainment and enrichment is an elderly couple, PHILIPE and EMILIE BAPTISTE. The couple lives in a once proud house in New Orleans’ lower Garden District. While the house is showing its age, the relationship of the couple within its walls is as warm and welcoming as the home that lies within. A backyard garden stands in stark contrast to the peeling paint of the Baptiste’s home. The colorful plot is well and lovingly tended - and the object of Philipe Batiste’s daily devotion and labor. The garden is the source of the old couple’s pleasure until Scat and Clod make it the source of their perverse entertainment. For the past several weeks, Scat and Clod have shown up daily, with six-pack and cigarettes in hand, and taken a seat on the wall that surrounds the garden. They have entertained themselves by hurling insults and threats at Philipe as he works in the garden below. Philipe, for his part, not only ignores the two thugs, he refuses to even acknowledge their existence; he merely goes about his daily chores. The old man’s lack of response, his refusal to be intimidated, only serves to infuriate Scat more. The thugs’ verbal abuse escalates to physical abuse. One day, Scat and Clod wait on the garden wall but Philipe never appears. In response, Scat and Clod pull a few bags of garbage from trash cans on the street and toss them into the garden to teach Philipe a lesson. The next day, on their way to the garden, they see a black wreath on the old couple’s front door. They decide that either the old man or his wife has died. When they reach the garden, they’re surprised to discover that the garbage is still strewn over it. Scat is then certain that it’s Philipe who has died. The thugs decide to burglarize the home. That night, dressed in black, they return, equipped with flashlights, a pry bar, and a plan. The only thing they haven’t planned for is…Ms. Emilie Baptiste.
