Two and-a-half years after the release of “Angel of Mercy,” MGM added new commentary to it to involve America’s entry into World War II, following the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese, on December 7, 1941. Aside from this slight editing, this one is still “Angel of Mercy,” depicting the efforts of Clara Barton to organize a hospital service for soldiers on the battlefields of World War I. Her efforts led to the formation of the American Red Cross. |
