A simple smartphone video tribute filmed inside my former maternal grandfather, Cheong Chee’s house in Ipoh, Malaysia. Chinese immigrant who fled the horrific civil war in Guangzhou, and forged a new life in Ipoh town, then a British colony. Rebuilding everything from scratch beginning in a humble pork stall to eventually a tin mine tycoon. He didn’t forget those that helped him achieve success and became a passion philanthropist and politician. Cheong Chee had 3 legal wives, more than a dozen of children, grandchildren and countless comrades from Indians, Muslims, British, Sikhs and Chinese minorities. A legend in Ipoh. |
