Academy Award nominee David Strathairn (Good Night and Good Luck; Lincoln) stars in this achingly honest portrayal of a father and son struggling to relate after 5 years apart. Ray, who has just returned to his desolate hometown, deals with financial hardship, divorce, and isolation in the bleak Appalachian mining community. Haunted by a culture of repression and imposed stoicism, both Ray and his father attempt to reconcile their fleeting masculinity in the wake of physical and emotional abandonment while tensions rise from the subtext to the forefront and culminate in one moment of violent catharsis. |
