Zoe is a dreamer, a recent College graduate and an aspiring young Writer who has spent the last few years of her life just waiting for something to happen. Sami is a GED recipient, a recluse and a revolutionary, without much regard for the loose affiliations she has with the people in her life or much of a clue about what she wants for her future. Neither of the two very different young Women share very much with each other save one thing, they both have the same Father, a thing that has proven to be a gift for one and a curse for the other. Despite the immense differences in their upbringing, the two can feel the everlasting effects of their connection, even though it is by the flimsiest of branches on a very fractured family tree. After the loss of their Father, Zoe is forced to find her way through life and define success for herself, with nothing but her Dad’s old journals and books to guide her while Sami is made to reconcile with the fact that the Father she knew was never really there for her at all. As Zoe begins examining the journals, she discovers her Father’s inner most thoughts about a great many things, and realizes just how long a shadow he casts in the literary sense, especially in death. Meanwhile Sami is resigned to the idea that she must search for her answers through a series of highs and lows that include tense conversations with her Mother, sessions with her Court Appointed Therapist, and a series of hook-ups with random Men and that seem to temporarily provide her with the escape she needs from the one question that seems to cripple her emotionally. Zoe wants very badly to make her Father proud, while Sami simply wants to feel acceptance from a Man she never felt was willing to give it. Zoe lacks inspiration. Sami lacks drive. Both Young Women, now Fatherless, are left to their own devices as they search tirelessly for a rainbow from two very different vantage points after the same storm, all the while never realizing that they might find balance in the last place they ever thought to look.
