It starts off as a case of a fish out of water for both Sara and Chloe in being warm weather urbanites. Sara's task is made all the more difficult in Travis and his father Travis Sr. - Pop - working on a much slower "Montana" pace than Sara is used to, despite Travis being very cognizant of the consequences of not securing the loan. Also preoccupying Travis and Pop's time is all the work they do to prepare for Christmas, not only for themselves but for most of the town, in carrying on the tradition of Pop's deceased wife, her passing partly the reason why Travis, formerly a New York City lawyer, returned to Bigfork and the ranching life. In the process, Sara and Chloe not only seem to embrace the slower country life and all that they've missed in Christmas without Rob, but Sara and Travis start to fall for each other. Beyond Sara potentially not coming up with a proposal that Travis could live with and thus not securing the loan, what is an obstacle in their relationship in their differing lives, Sara who would have a difficult time giving up the security of her job in Los Angeles for Chloe's sake.

Eventually able to overcome their antagonism, Rachel and Luke begin to work harmoniously together in realizing that they are working toward not only the same goal of a successful event, but that success which would springboard them to their end goals of putting Gail's company on the national map and Luke getting the GM position, respectively. In the process, Rachel and Luke start to fall for each other. Their path to a happily-ever-after is hindered by their diverging life paths, Rachel's whose is in New York City working toward a higher position in Gail's company, and Luke who is struggling with accepting a sure thing in an offer as GM at Wild West Amusements in Atlanta, that struggle especially as he begins to suspect the GM position at Dollywood won't be his and despite his heart being at Dollywood.

The fundraiser ensures the continuation of the choir for another year. She hits two eleventh hour snags with the show. First, her friend commissioned to write the title song for the fundraiser has to bow out due to other commitments, leaving no title song, the recording of which arguably would be the source of much of their money. That forces Katherine herself to write the song, something she thought she had put long behind her. And second, her star tenor comes down with a bug, he unable to perform in the show. Katherine believes she's found a replacement, the young man, Danny, who just happened to be interning for one day doing odd jobs as extra credit in his application to business school. She discovers that he has untapped natural musical talent. A further snag with Danny is that he generally not only sings for himself and has never done so in public, but that his widowed architect father, Greg Scanlon, may not want Danny to take his focus away from the college application, singing a choir which was not part of their plan. Greg has tried to be all things to Danny since his wife, Danny's mother, passed, it especially important for him to maintain those Christmas traditions. What is already a complicated situation may become more so with the interrelationships that develop between Katherine and both Greg and Danny, the latter who had an ulterior motive not related to music in coming into Katherine's choir room that first day.

American Angela de Luca is a tour guide in Rome, it a job she loves in showing visitors what she finds special about the city that can't be found in standard guide books. It is when she is nursing her wounds about the job in not knowing what to do that she literally runs into Oliver Martin, who works for the New York based acquisitions firm Fiske and Drummond, he in Rome on business to acquire famed high end Italian ceramics company Forlinghetti for Fiske and Drummond. Oliver is all work and no play, he especially seeing the Christmas season as an opportune time to do business as no one else wants to work and thus will rush into deals. He expects to meet with Luigi Forlinghetti, seal the deal and leave Rome without experiencing any of it. A promotion to vice-president of the company rests on the deal happening. Angela knows that Oliver's approach in focusing solely on the financials will not impress an old world person like Forlinghetti, for who doing things the traditional Italian way will be just as if not more important as the money. Not knowing anything about Italian mores, Oliver decides to hire Angela to be his cultural tour guide in navigating the process with Forlinghetti for his planned four day stay. In appreciation, Oliver, in turn, agrees to help her put together a business plan for her own tour company offering specialized, seasonal tours, like one specifically for Christmas, the plan to present to potential investors. In Angela opening Oliver's eyes to the joys that Rome has to offer, especially during the Christmas season, the two start to fall for each other. This time with Lily throws a wrench into what both Peyton and Ben had planned in the lead up to Christmas. Wanting to move into event planning, Peyton convinced her parents to let her organize this year's twenty-fifth anniversary Canaday Inn Christmas Eve party, which for all those years has been Birch Creek's event of the Christmas season. Peyton wants to make her mark by making this the best party ever, especially as the Gazette newspaper is planning to feature it on the front page of its Christmas edition. While she has been able to cross all the t's and dot all the i's in being detailed oriented, the one thing Peyton has not been able to do with one week to go is the big picture item of coming up with the party theme, the secret which she's kept behind the locked doors of the inn's still empty ballroom. Ben, when hearing about Ford, was just about to catch a plane to spend Christmas in Honduras for a "vacation", with only his father knowing the real reason being in going for an interview for a three year contract to work at Doctor's Care International's field clinic there, they who need a doctor on the ground the beginning of the new year. In spending time together with Lily, Peyton and Ben become friends once again with the possibility of more, especially if Ben divulges the real reason he didn't say anything to her ten years ago. But they will still have to overcome their different life paths, Peyton in what she hopes will be her new event planning career, and Ben in his medical work in Honduras, much like the altruistic decisions both his parents have made in their lives.

The film's Love Actually-esque premise revolves around the recently single Jessica (DeVitto), who sends Christmas cards to five people who have influenced her life: the aunt (Davidovich) who raised her, her younger brother in the military, a pop star Jax (Seeley) who provided the soundtrack to her life, the music teacher who inspired her, and her best friend, who always tells her the truth. As each person receives Jessica's card, they are sparked to act in their own lives to make them better.

Sharon learns from Vera's estate lawyer Sam Taylor, who also happens to be Vera's next door neighbor, that Vera will be leaving the house - where Sharon grew up - to her, but has written in a journal many of their family Christmas traditions, twelve of them which Vera wants Sharon to accomplish before she makes the decision on whether to move back into the house for good, which would be a departure from Sharon's life plan, or to dispose of it. Also factoring into what Sharon will do is the fact that she has been nominated for the prestigious MacAdam's Fellowship worth $500,000, the interview for which she will attend on December 31st back in New York. Sharon's plan is to incorporate her favorite of Vera's Christmas rituals with the twelve Christmas tasks, namely to hang each of the twelve days of Christmas ornaments on its display stand after the completion of each task. In that ritualized task, Sharon is dismayed to find that she can only find ten of the eleven ornaments, the partridge in a pear tree which never existed in this set, the missing ornament being the two turtle doves. In completing each task, Sharon gets help from Sam's ten year old daughter Mikayla and by association Sam himself. In return, Sharon ends up helping Mikayla cope with Christmas in the absence of her own mother Jenny who passed a few years earlier, Jenny, an artist, the reason she and Sam, originally from New York, moved to Pine Springs in the first place six years ago. In the process, Sharon can't picture a life without Sam and Mikayla but also doesn't know if she can put all that she's worked for behind her, while Sam knows he won't start something with Sharon that has no chance of even getting to the next step. Beyond whether or not she gets the fellowship, what happens between Sharon and Sam may symbolically be determined by whether or not the two turtle doves ornament is found, it which to Sharon signifies love.

Anne Garrison's job as head toy buyer for Sinclair's chain of department stores headquartered in New York City is much different than her toy experience growing up at her father Bill Garrison's shop, Garrison's Toys in North Bay, Maine. While what she buys for Sinclair's is mostly high tech, Garrison's primarily sells Bill's own crafted wooden toys, Anne who learned how to carve as a child but who has put that part of her life behind her. While she has spent a few days in North Bay around Christmas Day most years, she is heading back three weeks before Christmas this year as Bill is retiring and she is helping him at the store for this final Christmas before clearing it out to sell the property, with the plan being for him to move to Connecticut to be closer to both Anne and her sister. His original want was for Anne to take over the business. The store is not the only thing that might be closing in town as Dorothy Wentzell, the perceived cold-hearted owner of the town's largest employer Wentzell Lumber Mill, is thinking about selling and retiring as well, whoever the new owners of the property who will probably not keep it as a mill. The mill's General Manager, Keith McClain, moved to town following the passing of his wife so that his now ten year old daughter would have extra family in the form of Keith's sister-in-law Patty and her husband Sean. Keith would like to save the mill not only for his own sake - he not wanting to uproot Jessie again - but also for all his employees. Anne and Keith end up spending time together as they are wrangled into chairing the town's annual Christmas festivities: the tree lighting and silent auction, the Christmas carnival, and the Christmas pageant held on Christmas Eve. While Anne's high school boyfriend Tom Novak reenters her life in being the real estate agent handling the sale of the store, a mutual but unspoken attraction seems to be forming between Anne and Keith, especially as Anne is additionally helping Jessie with her solo in the pageant. While many things are up in the air for anything to happen between Anne and Keith - Anne heading back to New York potentially never to return to town with the sale of the store, and Keith possibly having to move if the mill property is sold - a set of themed wooden Santas that Anne carved just before she went away to college may play a part, those Santas which seem to be providing much needed inspiration to its recipients.
