The Mandalorian (2019) S2 E4
Researcher 2 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Wait! Was that a coin toss? If it was, Cara Dune owes “Blue” (Cpt Carson Teva) a drink!
Good episode, nice bit of action! Teva’s words might be hinting at an investigation into signs of another rebellion…some say the experimentation is Gideon trying to gain the force…yikes!

Disappointing episode. Nothing was gained by the whole anakin part. Just showing off and wasting about 10 minutes of misdirect

Agree! Saving grace was the whale jump but too bad we had to sit through the Anakin crap to get to it.

Shining Vale (2022) S1 E7

Geez! What an appetite! Time to start packing baby food else it’s going to be a “run for your life’ situation every feeding time.
Yeah, just a filler episode but a $1 million filler episode with some x-wings?!! I’m okay with that.

Dexter: New Blood (2021) S1 E10
UGuess 2 points 2 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

For one who just finished binging all the previous seasons of Dexter in December, I could’ve done without watching this season. I would’ve been more satisfied. Then hearing that letter, it makes no sense of the stance of Harrison. Hope Batista gets him, then I’ll be statisfied

Researcher 2 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Could that be the premise for the spin-off? Batista chasing Harrison?
Sigh…now I’m torn!

I’ve never seen anything like this! Slow start, having to set up the extremely different subject matter, but it gets intriguing and then becomes the very definition of the thriller genre. If you like off-the-beaten-path thrillers, you’ve got to watch this!

Spectacular ending! If you say you saw that coming, either your nose is growling or your pants are on fire…or both! The development was a white-knuckled ride that I sure as hell did not want to end! Please say there’s more to this than the one season.
First 4 out of 5 in a long time.

A Murder at the End of the World (2023)
Piglet 3 points 8 months ago.

Here’s a little bit more about this new limited series and it sounds intriguing…..“A Murder at the End of the World.” The seven-episode limited series is Agatha Christie by way of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” following a hacker-turned-amateur sleuth (Emma Corrin) who investigates a death at a secluded Icelandic retreat. Featuring a killer soundtrack and potent supporting turns from Clive Owen and Harris Dickinson, the nervy thriller takes a chilling dive into our obsessions with true crime and artificial intelligence.”

Brit Marling? Say no more! I hope hers is a significant presence.

Aussie dramas always draw me in. So much so that I’ve begun to recognize the faces. And so many of my faves in this one: Judy Davis, Deborah Mailman, Wayne Blair.

Fear the Walking Dead (2015) S8 E12
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 6 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I blame the “Showrunners” They turned this show into a giant ego stroke. Why do y’all think at the end of every episode you’re forced to sit in their bland crappy apartments and listen to them pat themselves on the back about the decisions they made.

They force decisions and pull rank to get done what they want. Then sit around telling everyone how creative they are, when the writers and directors are trying to work around their decisions and egos. Padre was a waste of a season. All the Madison returns BS was awful. So many other options and people they could have brought in from other shows. Just awful.

Researcher 2 points 6 months ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

So true on all points!
I watched one “inside the episode” and recognized it for what it was: “Mommy, look what I made!” I always thought that these explanations were necessary when there was so much nuance that viewers would need it. But with this last season, I don’t think so.
Will definitely agree with you on “The Madison Season.” I couldn’t figure out why they needed her to come back. And her flip-flopping from “help the children” to “kill everybody” to “find Alicia” was horrible.
FTWD should have quit after s2 or s3…there was no weight to anything that came after. Actually, I lost interest after John Dorie’s death.
I get that they had to attract Lennie James and Kim Dickens with whole seasons worth of “soul searching” but these two characters had waaay too much screen time. I kept waiting for FTWD to meet up with TWD characters that had hit the road, but that never happened. I guess spinoffs were a bigger ROI.
These two shows are a clear example that too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing!

The Acolyte (2024)
Piglet 2 points 4 months ago.

Still no release date but here is a bit more info on this new series. “The Acolyte,” the first “Star Wars” series set outside the Skywalker Saga, could be the change we need. The upcoming series is a mystery-thriller set 100 years before “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace.” A Jedi and their former Jedi master investigate a series of crimes in the final days of the High Republic era, a peaceful time before the Dark Side starts to stir trouble.”

Department Q
Researcher 2 points 3 months ago.

The Nordic (Denmark/Germany/Sweden) crime drama on which it’s based, was an original series complemented by several movies. So good that I had to create a playlist with them all, just to keep track!
Fingers crossed they don’t “fix what ain’t broke” as the original series and movies were excellent. The two main actors, Nikolaj Lie Kass and Fares Fares, made a great team. We shall see if there’s the same chemistry between Goode and Manvelov. Also, Byrne and Macdonald usually deliver with their performance. So, it’s up to the writers…sigh!

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live (2024)
Researcher 2 points 3 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

IMO, they waited too long for this installment. Frankly, I don’t care now if Rick and Michonne find each other or not; I did when the bridge blew up. I was curious to see what organization had helicopters. But now, so what! Besides, I always thought it was arrogant to think Rick’s crew was the only one capable of moving forward. But, five minutes in I was sick of Rick’s musings! As usual, I blame the writers!

Elsbeth (2024)
Researcher 2 points 2 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

My love of TV crime drama stems from the ‘70s. In fact, the only time I was allowed to stay up past my bedtime was for the “Mystery Movie” that alternated between “Columbo,” “McCloud,” “McMillan & Wife,” and “Banacek” (all my faves!)…and only because my Dad and I both loved the fledgling TV crime drama genre!
To me, the beginning of the pilot seemed reminiscent of “Columbo” in that the killer is seen committing the crime at the beginning of the episode and then we see how the investigator (here it’s an outsider-lawyer) connects the dots while getting under the skin of everyone around them. Nostalgia for that TV era means I’ll stay put for this!
Besides, I enjoy Carrie Preston in this type of role as I think she does quirky genius very well.

I dunno—I’m female and I admit to loving all sorts of mindless things I shouldn’t, and despising girly “romcoms” that I should. Oh well. Datetimestamp order would surely help to carry on a decent discussion!
I mean, if the comments feature includes a box for marking the comment as part of a “Discussion” then wouldn’t continuity (or sort Ascending /Descending by datetimestamp) be relevant?

The Conners (2018) S4 E1

Fail! But, more importantly: why?
Timing was off in the cell phone scenes.
For a comedy, the writing was abysmal.
…episode not befitting a season starter.

The Vanished (2020)
Researcher 1 points 3 years ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Thomas Jane and Anne Heche are usually better than this! So much stupid sh!t…I blame the writers. The one thing that prompted the comment is this: you’re a grieving parent…you go snooping around some creep’s place…you turn on a VCR with a tape in it…got it. But the minute you see your missing daughter on the screen, you should have grabbed the tape and run like hell to the cops/fire-rescue that are set up right there on the campgrounds!!! And don’t get me going on how poorly Heche and James played the parents of a missing daughter!
The only redeeming feature is the ending but they (actors, director, writers, what-have-you) needed more throughout the film to really connect to the ending. At the end, I just felt tricked instead of being whoa’d. Watchable but frustratingly infuriating…2 of 5.

Fringe (2008) S2 E16
TisOnlyMe 2 points 3 years ago.

FINALLY the underlying truth comes out, after 36 episodes! Most of S2 up to here has been ‘filler’ stories tbh, a lot of it nothing to do with ‘the pattern’ we heard so much about in S1. I like FRINGE a lot but they really stretched out the main story with a lot of episodic ‘weird science’ stories. Anyway i’m pushing on with a slow binge of review.. LOCKDOWN has proven ideal for re-watching old favourites! :))x

Tinker_Pixie95 6 points 3 years ago*.

Hi Canadian living in Canada here. The CBC in fact did not want to cancel the show, they did try to save it and find someone worthy of being Ins replacement… The CBC did order a 6th season but Ins was done making tv and wanted more. The one who really started this was Ins Choi because he wanted to produce movies and make more money. The CBC did in fact try to find another Korean Canadian writer for the show but they felt like others were not adequate to take over, so with no other options… they chose to end the show….. the show’s fate ultimately lied in Ins Choi’s hands…..

I recognize the lack of compassion and empathy in me (I blame my choices of TV/Film “entertainment”), but the same speech over and over and over again coming from the exact same idiots would make me open fire from word one! Of course, writers are to blame (as well as whoever is standing in for them) for putting out such repetitive drivel.
Maybe there is some hope for me since I hung in there expecting an uptick in quality. Nah! Just insanity!

I would like to see June flip the switch back into cold-hearted mode. Of course, Morgan will try to pull Ginnnie’s sis (what the heck is her name?!) away from the dark side and June will need to either find out from Morgan or somehow connect the dots. But this season will probably draw that out awhile.

Too much fiction, not enough science. It’s a bit woo-woo for me, and the field agents have too much soap opera going on. I would rather see the lab guys figuring out the debris, though with this type of show one of the lab guys be getting divorced, one would be an alcoholic and the general in charge would be a space alien in a skin suit…
