A shame. Miss him; miss Richard Jeni from back in the day, too, whose shows were featured here on yesterday’s front page.

The Peter Weyland Files: Happy Birthday, David (2012)
YgraineDance 0 points 2 years ago*.

Much as I have loved the Alien/Xenomorph franchise, the introduction of the David/Covenant/Prometheus offshoot just left me cold. I know, I know, Weyland Corp. is crucial to the overall mythology…I just found zero to like about those two films, and about David in particular. Ash and Bishop were enough.

I see Watts as abit of a Columbo/Groucho Marx/vaudviilian goof balls mix.

Also kind of like Vincent D’Onofrio on the old “Criminal Intent.”

That fits him:)

That’s a hilarious description of Watts! No, he has no impairments other than being a bendy, weavy, “lovable goof.” This isn’t solely a crime show. It contains many, many funny scenes/episodes and a lot of them have Watts in the lead role.

YgraineDance 1 points 2 years ago.

Thanks! I’ve watched the show for years and years; was there when Watts joined the cast, and I have NEVER seen him walk a straight line. I thought (okay, I hoped!) it was him being funny, because like you said, there’s a lot of sly humor going on here.

Murdoch Mysteries (2008) S15 E14
YgraineDance 1 points 2 years ago.

This is not a spoiler, I just have a question about the series overall for anyone here who watches regularly - and I’m asking because I don’t want to come off as mocking a (possible) disability, because I’m not. My question is, what is up with the Watts actor? He lurches around, bends, contorts, leans and weaves in and out of every scene he’s in. He’s never simply walking or standing. Is this for comedy? I know Canadian crime shows like to have at least one character who comes off as a “lovable goof” so is this what I’m seeing? Or is he in fact impaired in some way? I love the person he plays but I’m really wondering….and the forum does not open for me, or I’d ask there.

No. NO NO NO!!!! Just….NO! Lifetime believes women will resolve issues this way? NOOOO.

Well except for the murder and attempted murders, my step-Monster is pretty close to Lee’s behavior. she’s manipulative, conniving, vengeful, etc. Oh the stories I could tell…

Yikes. You have my sympathies!!

Deadly Ex Next Door (2022)
YgraineDance 1 points 2 years ago.

A dreadful film! No one behaves the way these characters did. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE.

I have never seen a more insipid example of “writing a script”—-and that’s saying something considering this is a Lifetime movie. 😠

Dancer in Danger (2022)
YgraineDance 1 points 2 years ago.

The movie was typical Lifetime; you go in knowing what’s coming, so no issues there.

One odd thing, though: the opening credits listed the particulars of this film (actors names, crew etc.) but the closing credits listed actors and characters from an entirely different movie. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen before, even in Lifetime films, some of which can have more than one title.

Vera (2011) S11 E3

This was a very involving tale from start to finish. One or two plot holes did not detract from it overall. I’m glad to see “Vera” has returned to the schedule.

Predators (2010)
YgraineDance 0 points 2 years ago.

I love the Yautja so much that I sat through this. This one, and the later movie released in 2018, which was even worse, just about ruined the franchise IMO. Somebody needs a good smack or three.

To Sir, with Love (1967)

My dad loved this one most of all. He was a high school principal, and really understood Poitier’s character of the caring teacher who does great things with kids that others saw few positive traits in. R.I.P.

Apex (2021)
YgraineDance 0 points 2 years ago.

I generally really enjoy movies with a “most-dangerous-game” kind of plot, but this one was not well constructed at all. Things picked up a little in the last segment but too much of the tale was just nonsense and lots of yakking between idiots. Earns a grade D.

I am constitutionally unable to pass up a Scott Adkins flick LOL and he was entertaining here, as he always is. I enjoyed the near first-person-shooter camerawork, and the nifty knife fights. He had a great team with him on the mission.

BUT a cliffhanger?? After all that buildup??? OMG please don’t tell me this was how they decided to “end” this story!?! smh

Evil Lives Here (2016) S9 E8
YgraineDance 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

This was truly a horrific story. The children had no chance at all, and while the mother recalls events in the marriage, and relates her feelings of dismay, consternation, and fear, I believe she really only comes to the basic truth of the situation at the very end when she (finally) says she should have left when she first saw the signs of this evil inside him, and not stayed and “tried to make the best of it.” And had two babies with this man. :-(

The young teens will love this. It looks like them, sounds like them (with salty language they use when adults aren’t too close) and speaks to their love of gaming and roleplay. Lance Henriksen’s fabulous smooth, deep voice lends gravitas when the story calls for it, and sly humor when things warrant such.
Don’t go in expecting some Marvel blockbuster or a LoTR epic; this isn’t that. What this is, is a fun little story (allegory, I’d say) about an average kid who gains the confidence he needs in order to step up and become his best self. As I say, IMO the kids will like it, and the adults will have some fun, too.

Castle Falls (2021)
YgraineDance 3 points 2 years ago*.

Oooh a Scott Adkins movie! I am so in!!!

*Edit after viewing: Very entertaining! A simple cat ‘n mouse story and some fun along the way. Adkins worked well with Lundgren, and both delivered on the action.

A trend I have been enjoying (and am looking forward to in Expendables IV, among others) is how some of our much-loved action stars are comfortable with showing the very human changes that come with time, work, and age. No longer do they really have to pretend to be 29 years old ad infinitum. We love them because we love them and knew them “when”. I look forward to the day when more American actors/actresses can do this, in this genre of film as well as others.

I’m still in. The weak links are still Izzy & Josh. I hope they take some acting classes between now and the second season.

YgraineDance 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Agree. Very uneven—-and I doubt that can all be blamed on the director. Sometimes they act like they’re 20 years old, other times like they’re 10:-/

greenguy86 3 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Great episode. Looking forward to a second season.

YgraineDance 2 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I think the episode got something right when the ne’er-do-well son mended his relationship with his estranged mom, the cop, prior to her death. That seemed real and made story-progressing sense after their cave misadventure earlier. I liked it.
BUT the entire season still feels as if it might have been condensed into a mere 2-hour first episode. The cliffhanger isn’t fun. That’s just a subjective opinion.

The Good Father: The Martin MacNeill Story (2021)

Me, too, with the kids. Just like dumb deer in headlights. That was the first fail I’ve seen the writers make on this show—-but I enjoy it immensely overall so I kinda forgive LOL. And yes, Tilly is a hilarious treasure.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow (2016) S7 E4
YgraineDance 0 points 2 years ago.

Like other posters here, I feel that this show has been consistently clever and fun, and I’ve followed it with great enjoyment from the beginning. The writers have hit another home run with this episode. Such creativity! I wish this team could also write for a few other sci-fantasy shows needing massive shots in the arm.

Supergirl (2015) S6 E20
YgraineDance 1 points 2 years ago*.

This was really well done. I commend the writers for this very nice wrap-up to the series, which had its ups and downs over the years, but always tried to uplift and show positivity. 👍🏽

La Brea (2021) S1 E6
greenguy86 0 points 2 years ago.

The teen actors are terrible. They are just so generic. I like it enough to keep watching.

YgraineDance 1 points 2 years ago.

I don’t know why someone is taking points off you; your ideas are as valid as any others. They do this to me also, and I never quite know why.😕

But see, it’s not the actors so much that bother me, although no one wins a prize there, either - it’s the cool premise that they have flubbed by falling back on so much formulaic snail-paced melodrama that never gets us to the truly wild, inventive sci-fi-fantasy tale that might have been more fun.
Kind of what The Walking Dead has done, sadly. (Yeah, I know folks love that maddening thing so don’t jump my shit if you’re one of them, but it COULD have been so much more.)

I will stay with La Brea, but I plan to run my lip about it anyway. It gets what it deserves, I say. To get more, there’s gotta BE more. And yes, this too is what life is.
