A garden looks placid, but with the help of the magnifying lens on a camera we see life and death struggles abounding. Aphids fall prey to a caterpillar’s larvae. Ants drink at a drop of dew before one is caught in a spider’s web. A wasp buries a stunned caterpillar with her soon-to-hatch egg, leaving her progeny food. A Jerusalem cricket encounters first a scorpion, then a tarantula. Crickets prepare to mate; two males fight over a female. Then, as the honeymoon begins for the victor, a centipede arrives. Later, the centipede has its own fight-to-the-death with a spider. Bower of bliss indeed! |
