Details:

At an informal family dinner that will turn out to be her last meal, Janie Wentworth watches the subtle teasing between her husband, Paul and sister, Ellen. Having known about their affair for weeks, it is now time to set in motion the plan that will right the wrongs that have been done to her. As morning breaks over her tidy suburban home, Janie opens her laptop and sets to work, highlighting copies of phone bills and credit card statements. She complies all her detective work into a manila envelope labeled with Paul’s name, sticks a note to Ellen in the mailbox, and sets off on a drive into the Columbia River Gorge. Janie’s hike up to the top of a waterfall is intercut with Paul finding her “Dear John” letter. In it she reveals pictures of Paul with Ellen, and that she’s emptied his bank accounts, donating the money to charity. She also reminds him that their pre-nup will be null and void if one of them is caught cheating. As Paul ransacks their bedroom looking for his secret stashes of cash, he finds that she’s also thrown out all his clothes. As Paul returns to the last contents of the envelope, he finds an x-ray showing that Janie’s cancer has returned. The doctor has given her six weeks to live. The last page is from her life insurance policy, indicating that there will be no pay out in the event of suicide. Shocked and bereft, Paul runs through the house calling her name, hoping it’s all a cruel joke. As Janie reaches the top of the cliff and gazes out over the incredible beauty below, she smiles for the first time, finally free.
