Details:

The Girl That Lived (2013) is a video to raise awareness for those with mental illnesses. Considering many different ideas, such as drugs and murder, the main character, Holly (Rhiannon Drake), is thought to have Schizophrenia. Her life starts normally, as she gets ready for work. But a mysterious book is posted, going by the name of the film title, written by “The Storyteller”. She begins to hear voices, and believes someone is following her. This voice (Iain Stuart Robertson) appears to be behind the camera throughout. She is shown in many different situations, such as asking for money, and having illusions of being in different locations. The voice tells her to take drugs, which she does, but seems to regret it. She scratches herself in stress, but this does not relieve her of her worries. After a series of events, she kills someone in a car park, and shouts at her alternate voice, asking “Why can’t you make me happy?” The voice tells her that if she rips up the book, all of her troubles will go away. So she does, but the voice is still there. Holly violently grabs the camera and climbs over the balcony, preparing herself to jump of the edge of the top floor of the building. She says she can’t take it anymore, drops the book, then falls off. Holly’s mother (Allie Neal) is shown mourning at a road-side memorial, where she picks up the book. She then turns to the camera and exclaims, “Who are you?”. This implies that the book is the source of her troubles. This short film was made for Mind, the well-known mental health charity.
