I’ve finally had the chance to watch this straight through to the end. IMO it’s not…I don’t know, quite what I suppose I was expecting. I guess I figured it would be more clinical than prurient (in spite of the thumbnail come-on!) And prurient isn’t exactly the right word, either. This is more of a peek into the daily lives and tribulations of pretty-ordinary-in-all-ways-but-one British guys, as they both enjoy, and regret, their most…singular…feature. A few of them seem, with dismay, to begin to be feeling what it is like to be ranked and rated, sought after and rejected, for the body God gave them. Dating prospects and relationships are affected. Not always a barrel of laughs - and their faces sometimes show us this dismal reality.

Of course, the show can’t help itself from doing some level of smirking, not just from the interviewees, but also from the narrator, trying hard to make sure we TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY! And generally, we do - but some decisions, such as the one to, for example, show some things clearly, then blur others, seem a bit odd. Is this purely titillation, or documentary, or some uneasy mashup of both? I felt this most keenly with the “swinger” couple. I couldn’t get a real read on them and (to me) they didn’t make a lot of sense. Watch and draw your own conclusions. These are just a few of mine.
