I give it a big thumbs down. I don’t even understand what I watched because they didn’t really bother to give a storyline. It’s just a random scene that doesn’t connect much.

Great to know. I just watched the 2nd epi & it was just as riveting. All the characters are intriguing due to the acting. There’s also some unexpected humor too sprinkled throughout. Despite knowing all the pieces (or thinking that I do, we’ll see) the storytelling really keeps you in suspense. There’s always surprises right around the corner in the Fargo universe though.

I think you and YR1 might like The Fall of the House of Usher if that’s how you feel. Different drama, but it really unfolds nicely.

I feel. like he’s going to back out and let his dad lead the way. Up until that moment where his baby was revealed I think he would have turned him over to the family. Then later on his land might be brought into question. But now I have no idea where they’re going.

Hmmm this darn series knows how to kickstart my anxiety everytime SMH. That darn daughter, ugggh I just can’t and IDKY, it’s been this way from the beginning with me and her. But the son, what’s going on with him? Perhaps someone can enlighten me?? Though it’s been a pretty good series so far, I’m a bit let down because I still not don’t know the root. I think this is the final ep of this season and if they drag it out too long, I’ll bail.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

from last episode it seems that the NSA told her they were kidnapped by the parents. I don’t know if it’s both or just the son. He’s too immature for me. but that might be intentional….like later we will find out he is younger that he thinks because they lied about his age when they kidnapped him? Or maybe that’s all made up to flush out the family?

Great ending and not what I expected. THey had a creative way of showing the Justice League while only cameoing two.

That said when it seemed like a cameo was happening at the end, I totally thought it was the Titans who were appearing at first. I thought Superman’s silhouette was Konner or Nightwing for some reason.

Did you notice that you could drag the camera’s view around to cover a 360 image? I think that might have been the big reason for making it?

It’s good. Totally watchable thanks to the dynamic of Muscle + Officer (They’ve both got a few shows under their belts). If it weren’t for them, joking back and forth it would tank. Suzy, the veteran actor, phoned it in on this one.

Unfortunately it brings nothing new to the table. The ending is telegraphed a mile away and it is basically a script where someone sat down with Kaleidoscope, Money Heist and Army of Thieves/Dead and cut and paste a script. From the really unnecessary customs masks, to the flip flopping timelines and stylized sets and costumes. Seriously an assassin in all white?

It’s good but not rewatchable good.

I like it a lot. To me, it has an “NYPD Blue” vibe, which Jimmy Smits also starred in back in 1994 - 2004.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 1 year ago.

Seriously Jimmy Smits gets no respect. I do not think he has had a single show go past the first season since NYPDBlue/WestWing days. His last law show was really good and they didn’t give it a chance.

On another note as far as the reat of the show goes, I am not impressed with the Rookie’s storyline. Maybe they didn’t want to go hard on them since there are two Rookie shows already out, but the real meat of the show is Regina Howard. Her slow drawls and the way she looks at people is the most accurate portrayal of a woman in NYC working as first responder. Every time there’s nonsense on the show she looks at them like “are you kidding me” It’s so authentic to this part of Brooklyn. When I had to remove someone from my building, the two officers who showed up were exactly like Hayward and - I can’t recall his name (the bald older training officer).

Black Adam (2022)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 10 months ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

I waited to watch this because it had so much negative press. I am glad I did. I see why the Rock fought for it and where it is seriously slacking.

  1. There should have been 10xs more support from the other DC stars for this film to tie it into the universe. there was none so I didn’t know where it fit in the multiverse AT ALL.
1a. Maybe the fight sequence where the DC posters get destroyed is foreshadowing a future film - but maybe those actors took them as personal shots against them by the team working on Black Adam?
  2. This could have drawn in the Ms Marvel crowd (teens plus Middle Eastern diaspora focus) and the Black Panther Crowd (Black diaspora + Anti-hero who is fighting for the diaspora & points out the colonizers rules don’t always apply to the people they oppressed - “not your kid not your country”) all to one DC blockbuster BUT THEY SERIOUSLY DROPPED THE BALL ON MARKETTING THAT.
  3. Watching this I thought…What is the Rock complaining about? There aren’t a lot of places that need more money — then I got to the zombie creatures. these ridiculous zombie things that look like the original Jason and the Argonauts! Awful. If that is any indication of what the film looked like before he stepped in and demanded more money that kudos to him for fighting for the film because it would have been complete trash.
  4. Last but not lease the music. This had blah boring music sequences. They really should have gotten a better music supervisor. I don’t need the slapstick retro songs and comedic points like Marvel. But a good recognizable song that lets you know badass ish is about to go down like in WonderWoman was seriously neglected here. The blah music really sets the pace of the film. Ms. Marvel and Black Panther did great jobs of using music appropriate for the location and incorporating modern music from those cultural groups - listen to the Ms. Marvel soundtrack it’s fantastic.

I hope they don’t scrap the entire Black Adam story. He could really tie into the Justice league and bridge the gap with Hawk and the Justice Society into that world.

To put it plainly, I would rather rewatch this than Shazam or Ant Man and look how much support those movies get. The Rock was right.

This show is ambitious. I enjoyed that it was a new concept and didn’t just rip off Minority Report’s TV version I wasn’t expecting that much wrap-up in one episode. it felt a little rushed. I expected them to do something about the Politian’s who were excluded from the system. I also feel like I missed when Poet lost her eye. I was waiting on that — so it must not have been a great scene if I do not remember it.

I have no problem with the casting or the accent. I love the show as it is, flaws and all.
I was just offering DownrightDebonaire^^ a possible reason for sounding a bit off.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 9 months ago.

yes I am aware he’s from 2 different countries. I pick it up quiet easily when non-North Americans play those characters. Canadians playing someone from the US and vice versa isn’t as bad.
It’s really bad when there’s more than one person on the main cast who is foreign and they have to talk fast. they both throw each other off. Off the top of my head the show Brothers and Sisters from 10 years ago, used to have that happen a lot. The worst was Without a Trace. Loved the show but three actors with bad accents were starring in it.

Basically any time you hear a really exaggerated localized accent it’s someone foreign

you’re way off base. like I said. I like the show. great writing and direction. bad choice in lead. I can watch good acting and direction with the rest of the ensemble cast. His struggles to keep up his mediocre accent is distracting.

Another choice in actor would put this on par with Yellowstone.

Joe Pickett (2021) S2 E8
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 9 months ago.

I really like this show and want to love it. I’m not a fan of the choice in lead actor. There are plenty of American or Canadian actors that could do this in their sleep with such good writing and directing. Instead we get this guy’s slack-jawed, marble mouthed impression of the Central/Mid North American Accent.

Didn’t realize this episode had dropped. Some interesting things about this episode. Clint Howard (Ron Howard’s younger brother) returns to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as Commander Buck Martinez, the Chief Medical Officer who brings Nurse Chapel to J’Gal. Clint Howard has had multiple roles in the Star Trek franchise, including playing Balok in The Original Series (he was a little child at the time) and appearing in Deep Space Nine, Enterprise, and Discovery.

It was a nice throw back. I wasn’t too fond of this episode. too much to tackle in one. if it had been a 3 episode arch I would be on board. every scene felt incomplete and rushed.

Justified: City Primeval (2023) S1 E3
expresso 4 points 9 months ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

What I’m noticing is the complete lack of bodacious loquacious articulatin’ in the dialogue, in this spinoff from the original Justified. We tend to think of Boyd Crowder as the grandiloquent one but the quality was so high and consistent: everyone in that show had colorful dialogue (notably Eva). Those scripts were at their best in Justified when Boyd and Raylan were sparring verbally, and Raylan gave as well as he got - but everybody down all tiers of the cast and second and third sub-plots had dialogue that sang. Same group, same show runners: all the witty repartee seems to have been lost in the decade in between. Those kinds of comments in this series are few and far between, and they fall like a thud compared to the previous outing. Raylan still has that fire in the belly (and the eyes) but seemingly no sense of humor, probably sucked out of him by the less-than-2-dimensional daughter.

I agree with the consensus on here - she’s not an actor - but more importantly, they’ve given her nothing to work with except “sniveling brat.” I’m convinced by the character and I see why “sniveling brat” could have been a good choice here, it’s sadly very realistic for a situation like this where one parent phones it in out of guilt. I know several kids that are as screwed up, uncooperative and self-destructive as Willa. But they’ve given her a repetitive 100-word vocabulary of snivel, and her delivery lacks the urgency of really feeling even the most insipid of childish emotions (maybe because, as someone noted, she’s 20 and not 15, and the dialogue is more suited for a 7 year old). It’s as if Beavis and Butthead were dredged out of Cartoonville to write lines for a girl they hated from class. Adding to that mismatch, as a character she’s nowhere near smart enough to be his daughter. Her father is in law enforcement, and she really sees danger nowhere? She doesn’t have any of his flip language or sass? Even the most talented actress would have nothing to work with here.

When you give Timothy Olyphant good lines to sling (see Deadwood) he will deliver and then some. I feel sorry for Elmore Leonard (‘s estate). Here’s hoping she actually stays on the plane (PLEASE) and if this has enough legs to carry it to a second season, she is nothing other than a device to deliver occasional offside plot complications from Florida.

Some of the supporting characters are well-drawn, but lots of cartooning here (the Albanian, c’mon please) including the main baddie who I’m sorry is just B-L-A-H.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 9 months ago.

As for the watered down dialogue, perhaps they are trying to make a statement about Northerners? Or maybe they hired new (cheaper) writers. I think that’s what they did with Bosch. Instead of picking up where they left off they started a new show and that meant they could break a lot of acting contracts and get rid of writers.

Still bitter about that bait and catch. They advertised using him a lot leading up to the premiere and then … well we all saw the pilot episode. Cavill has not been shy about expressing his concerns that the show is steering further and further from the source material and why he thinks that is a mistake. I happen to agree with him. The first season was great. Each subsequent one less so. I can’t imagine how exchanging one hot actor for another without addressing the deviation into the realm of mundanity is giong to make it more appealing. So the answer is yes. for those of us that think this would be better by sticking to the feel of the books, he did warn us of what is to come. Will I continue to watch? Probably, but a part of me will mourn for what we could have had.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 9 months ago.

considering the extensive NDAs he has to sign and the fallout of losing future roles from comments like that, I wouldn’t be surprised if they had him say that to drum up some drama and get people to keep watching and see what Hemsworth brings to the table. Like the Rock in the Fast Franchise. I think that stuff was BS to get people to keep coming after the lead died.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 9 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

There was a significant amount of drama in this series and it is —not necessarily better this season, but driving the locomotive hard and fast towards something. WHat that is and wether it’s worth it is still undecided.

That being said I was extremely upset with the pacing of the second half of the season release. episode 8 ended and it was less of a cliff hanger and more of a—the writer put the pen down and walked away mid thought. It was abrupt and didn’t feel like the arch or scene was finished. the first 5 episodes were great then the last 3 were hard and fast. feels like there should be two more episodes to round out the season. And before you get sarcastic in the comments, Yes, I know its usually 8 episodes however the release of the first 5 implied there would be ten and the delivery of the second makes it seem like there should have been. 10 and 12 episode shows are paced more like the first half of this season was.

There was a lot of unnecessary time spent on The Rats making you think they would be involved in a short episode 9 & 10 arch. You don’t give lines and closeups to people you’re never using again. Nope. With that much attention perhaps they will have a spin off like Blood Origin or be heavily involved in expanding the universe in Season 4? The show has grown on me but the ending of this season was disappointing.

The kid’s shoes and sneakers are missing all at once and it’s just dropped as a loss not a theft?!?!? That being said, the 1 in a billion chance that the kid leaves exactly as the tutor is leaving is a bit much, not add to that the 1 in a million chance that they can find him in a commercial vehicle on a Saturday night in Manhattan while the kid is on a bike, plus the 1 in a trillion chance that the stalker shows up at the exact perfect time wearing the exact same hoodie the kid left his house in….

I would say overall it could use better writing. The scenarios and plot points are pretty wild for them to all coincide at specific times. I don’t like the way they make the Guyana folks look like superstitious fools or how they make Zazzie’s character another manic/ mentally ill person off their meds who solves a mystery.

All that being said if you make it past the pilot episode, the juice is worth the squeeze. Anything negative revolves around the writing.
