Rebel (2021)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 9 months ago.

The first review of this show clearly reflects the writers anger at the subject matter and the language they used is pretty reflective of that. This is not a lawyer show and it says that in the first 2 sentences of the synopsis. It’s is produced and loosely based on Erin Brockovich’s life. It’s a pretty funny underdog series, where people get help from Rebel - help they couldn’t normally afford or receive because the villain is a giant corporation. It’s a woman with a sloppy life and big personality that’s tilting at windmills. Every episode is a super fast and comical Erin Brockovich type adventure. She always gets her way one way or another and that includes with her big family of ex-husbands fiancé and adoptive kids. Some fragile to a woman in charge may take it personal ;)

Nothing new in the zombie genre but still very watchable and for a low budget movie it had very decent fx. The mein actor is a beast.
I recommend it to all the zombie fans

ASSuming it was a typo but I like the idea of an undead gender. :) once you die your gender is Dead or Zombie.

I am half way through this series and it has definitely held my interest. There are enough twists and turns that I have not figured it out yet. With Cush Jumbo in the lead, what’s not to like?

I came here for The Cush. She never disappoints

Long Slow Exhale (2022)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 9 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Rose finally gets a lead show with A list support and the writing is…eh. It’s a good show especially if you love or participated in college sports. It felt like being back in the locker room. A lot of research went into athletics and how that dynamic works with Deans and Athletic directors etc. Unfortunately the writers either never stepped foot out of church or never spoke to a person under the age of 25 because the writing for the younger people is tragic. It was rough listening to kids argue with the Church -going player. The very religious girl is a staple on any athletic team but the way she talked was like a 50yer old was writing her character. I was very disappointed in Famke’s portrayal. One of my fav actresses but this was not her swan song.
I think it was finding it’s way and deserved a second season. For a smaller network show it has pretty good production value. It doesn’t look like a Hallmark production a lot of it is on location.

Ben-Hur (2016)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 2 years ago.

I’ve been on a bit of a Sword and Sandal kick and I have to say, after the other Ben Hur 2010 version I had low hopes but was pleasantly surprised. It starts off a bit dodgy (acting) but it gets better. The battle scenes were pretty graphic but not gorey. The acting was pretty darn good and none of the “Historical” plot points were too over dramatic. I think they were much better played than in the 1960 and 2010 versions that didn’t really connect the dots as clearly as this one. The actor playing Judah Ben-Hur was a co-star on Boardwalk Empire. He played the military vet who was shot in the face.

So Bosch who multiple times has said he lives where he lives because it’s on a cliff with only one way in and out that he can surveil - Bosch who’s home was raided by assassins’ in another season - Bosch the paranoid ex military guy has no security on his place and these guys can just walk in? No video proof they drove up or entered? OK. Now you want me to believe the same guys, working with the Crew on an investigation did no background checks, and through out the past month of following Bosch have no idea his daughter is the same Bosch on Crew and captured 5 months ago? Lazy writing on this one and story holes!

when a show starts off like this one, it cares more about shock value and stylized moves— than acting, history or artistry. Feels like it’s trying really hard to get the Peaky BLinder audience, but nothing about it is keeping my interest after 10min. It’s very rare for me not to finish a pilot episode.

NCIS: Origins
Piglet 1 points 29 days ago.

Here is more information on the spinoff……Robert Taylor is set to play a recurring role in CBS’ new series, NCIS: Origins. Taylor who is best known for playing Sheriff Walt Longmire on the Wyoming crime drama Longmire for six seasons will play Jackson Gibbs, the strict father of Leroy “Jethro” Gibbs in Origins, which is set to premiere during the 2024-25 television season. Mark Harmon played Jethro in the original NCIS series, which featured the late Ralph Waite as Jackson. Austin Stowell is set to play the role of young Jethro in the upcoming NCIS prequel, which takes place in the 1990s. Harmon will narrate the show, which will co-star Kyle Schmid, Mariel Molino, Diany Rodriguez, Tyla Abercrumbie, Daniel Bellomy and Caleb Martin Foote.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 29 days ago*.

I’m definitely going to watch it. But to be honest I really appreciate all the world building they do away from Gibbs. I thought it was going to be an origins story for NCIS as an agency and the nerd in me was digging that concept. Similar to the season in Criminal Minds where they went back and showed how the unit began.

This will be good - NCIS can do no wrong! ( I include spin-offsa that never made it to air)

Hmmm this darn series knows how to kickstart my anxiety everytime SMH. That darn daughter, ugggh I just can’t and IDKY, it’s been this way from the beginning with me and her. But the son, what’s going on with him? Perhaps someone can enlighten me?? Though it’s been a pretty good series so far, I’m a bit let down because I still not don’t know the root. I think this is the final ep of this season and if they drag it out too long, I’ll bail.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 2 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

from last episode it seems that the NSA told her they were kidnapped by the parents. I don’t know if it’s both or just the son. He’s too immature for me. but that might be intentional….like later we will find out he is younger that he thinks because they lied about his age when they kidnapped him? Or maybe that’s all made up to flush out the family?

A very confusing ending. I am left not truly knowing the future of the team since the dinner party is from Jane’s point of view. That being said, I enjoyed the full circle ending. She ends the how exactly how she started it. In a bag in Time Square. Side note, I was getting Throuple vibes from Patterson/Rich/Boston since the first catty comments from Boston. Easter Eggs - the cup Patterson is drinking from is her other show. Rich’s (Ennis) other show he is on involves a throuple.

its just six episodes not much to change there.

The end of the last episode did not match with the beginning of the next. Since my last post The production company released a statement saying they did air them out of order. They posted episode 3 instead of 2.

I really like the main actor and have been anxiously awaiting him carrying another show. I just hope this doesn’t get cancelled because the producers mess around with it. I think it fills the hole left by Big Sky Country.

How beautifully poetic! Sailing off into the sunrise….in tears and on a dilapidated boat. Still don’t know what’s going on but that’s ok. wonder if the water tower in this episode (6x9) is the same water tower from the Teen walking Dead show? Is this taking place after and it’s been destroyed? I am so confused about that timeline and where it lines up to this show and the other and I’m waiting for crossover clues.

Family Law (2021) S3 E10
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 10 months ago.

I binged the latest season and I can’t help but notice that often in the “previous episode” there’s a clip from a scene that I didn’t see. I wonder if they use clips that were cut from the final edit?

The Listener (2009)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 3 months ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

I binged season 1 yesterday and I have to say the first three episodes are full of plot holes and move really fast. Some hint or glimpse of an image and Toby is across town climbing in a window to save the day based on thin evidence and a hunch- laws be damned! This guy needs to see Minority report.
I do like that it’s not the same typical consultant show (US) , where some arrogant consultant solves crimes for the PD while being a total anti-hero jerk to his colleagues (think Scorpion, Lie to me, Bull, Elementary, Numbers etc.) It will be interesting to watch him solve crime while helping people directly. That being said, the over saturated dyed hair, pancake makeup and weird filter make the first season pretty hard to watch. They look like aliens with auras. It’s similar to the AI filters now. I’m breezing through them since they are all 38min long.

Season two is a little easier on the eyes and the storylines are more creative.

Season 3 they’ve removed the filter, and heavy makeup. All of a sudden people have freckles, 5’oclock shadows and look human. Toby is now on a police taskforce and it’s really disappointing to see the job go in that direction. I really enjoyed the EMS angle and making him a cop seems well - lazy writing. Keeping his cover was what made the first two seasons fun. Now half the 1st responders know he’s psychic.

The Endgame (2022)
irdulili 1 points 2 years ago.

Try not to gasp in unison but I just read NBC has cancelled this series. Why does NBC keep buying slow burners if they are just going to can the show right when it starts getting good? It’s become a cliche at this point.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 3 months ago.

NBC and the other primetime networks have a trend of making high production-fast paced-sexy spy/con-artist type shows that are pg-13-ish and cancelling them even when they have good numbers. The Catch, End Game, The Company You Keep all fall under this umbrella. I could tell from the pilot people would love it but the network cancels it. If there’s sexy leads making lots of quips and no semi-nudes or explicit sex scenes they get the axe before mid season.
USA/TNT/streaming services have had huge success with the same genre. Quantico, Burn Notice, White Collar, Imposters, Covert Affairs, Graceland.

Sometimes there reasoning is very thin. The Company You keep was up against heavy hitters. There numbers were not bad. EndGame didn’t have horrible numbers, it’s just they expected it to have Blacklist/Blindspot numbers day 1.

It’s not a perfect formula but if the show is high production and cheeky, but shows no cheeky cheeky, It’ll be gone next season.

Nice way to leave it. The last season was very… fast. I think production was working at warp speed. Toby wears the same 3 blue shirts for 13 episodes. I think they learned their lesson with reshoots in Season 4 when “Michelle’s” hair fell out (in real life) and they had to use a terrible Party City wig for a few episodes for reshoots.

Great to know. I just watched the 2nd epi & it was just as riveting. All the characters are intriguing due to the acting. There’s also some unexpected humor too sprinkled throughout. I didn’t see HTGAWM, but everybody in Scandal was focked up in the head. Not a sane one amongst them, but that’s just the government. Gabi is f’d up due to childhood trauma, and she’s definitely devolving right now. What is strange is she finally escaped from Sir, but then captured him and imprisoned him. It’s like she doesn’t want to be free of him. A sort of mysterious love-hate relationship. Can we say “addicted to drama?”

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 4 months ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

In the end of the previous episode she said that she was locked in the basement. She wasn’t lying. By bringing Sir home and imprisoning him, she is essentially imprisoning herself with him.

This would easily bring up discussions of Stockholm syndrome on the show — But I recently saw a segment on TV about how that theory is false and anecdotal. There’s no real evidence of it and the person who first circulated it as a paper never did any studies.
