Doctor Who (2005)
Tardis3162 8 points 2 years ago.

I don’t understand why people are blaming Jodie Whittaker for the decline. Granted she isn’t who I would have chosen for the first female Doctor, I would have liked to see someone like Michelle Ryan. That would have worked perfectly off of Peter Capaldi’s bit of the Doctor sometimes using the faces of people he’s meet before. Jodie doesn’t make my top 5 or anything like that. However that being said I think she has done great with what she has been given. The REAL problem with Jodie’s three seasons (well two so far) is 100% Chris Chibnall…SO BAD!!! I hear he’s leaving when Jodie leaves after this upcoming season. And I couldn’t be happier!!

glostarz999 10 points 2 years ago.

I agree with every word of that. Chibnall was always the problem. Bloke is an absolutely appalling writer and showrunner. The cast had nothing to work with at all. So glad that he’s leaving next year. Toby Whithouse would have been my choice after Moffat stepped down.

Hmm, yeah, interesting doc on Dick. Worth a watch if you like his stories :))x

glostarz999 7 points 3 years ago*.

‘Doc on Dick’ sounds like a BBC3 show that I REALLY wouldn’t want to watch. Looking forward to watching this though. Only Lovecraft could match him for sheer invention and creativity in the sci fi/ horror genre. And Lovecraft was a nutcase too. That probably isn’t a coincidence.

highly recommend. didn’t know what to expect and i found a treasure trove. it’s dark humour and highly entertaining. not for the easily offended.

glostarz999 6 points 3 years ago.

If you enjoyed that then you might want to check out some of Van Dormael’s other movies. I’d highly recommend ‘Toto the Hero’, ‘The Eighth Day’ and ‘Mr. Nobody’ to you. He’s probably my favourite Belgian director.

The Worlds of Philip K. Dick (2016)
TisOnlyMe 6 points 3 years ago.

One key to the dark, dystopian vision is his continued use of Amphetamines. i believe Stephen King used them too, both writers of prolific weirdness. Ever take speed? It’ll lead you down some dark by-ways and of course, creativity is only a fine line away from insanity EVER. Speed also makes you paranoid, another shared ingredient in this genre. This doc made me feel sad, not a lot of happiness going on but i suppose the work, his output, is justification.. i have long believed that great art is usually the product of obsession, which leads to compromise in all other areas of a Life. Sad Life but some great stories

glostarz999 5 points 3 years ago.

I agree completely. The multiple revolving wives probably helped too in getting the creative juices flowing. Speed is an evil and dirty drug but it’s cheap and easy to get hold of and it fuelled most of his work. He only really lost me when he got religion in his later years. ‘Flow my Tears, the Policeman Said’ is an underrated masterpiece. See also ‘Radio Free Albemuth’. Not watched the doc yet. One of my favourite writers though.

It would appear so. Was that a joke that I didn’t get or were you having a pop at me? I was just being daft and making a throwaway comment on a series that was ALWAYS on on Sunday evening and you knew that that meant that the weekend was over and it was school again tomorrow.

The Red Balloon (Short 1956) (1957)
Saucer-People 4 points 3 years ago.

In my opinion the three greatest short films are Chris Marker’s Le Jetee, Alain Resnais’ Night And Fog and Albert Lamorisse’s The Red Balloon. Curiously, all three films are French and yet are so different in genre, style and subject matter, but all three are worth watching back to back to give you a sense of what is possible in just over 90.minutes of film making, the length of an average film.
However, if you’re looking for a single film to make you smile, The Red Balloon is for you.

glostarz999 4 points 3 years ago*.

Just got around to watching this and it was pretty much what I expected it to be. Not as good as ‘Adam’s Apples’ or ‘The Green Butchers’ but still really entertaining. Some of the black humour might upset some people though so be warned. And you do get to see Nicolas Bro topless and that’s something that I feel that I ought to warn people about too. All men envy his physique. Lots and lots of ridiculous facial hair in this movie. Mads looked ancient with that beard and Nikolaj Lie Kaas was virtually unrecognisable. Really good fun. I enjoyed it a lot.

Well that was a big, fat bunch of pointless, plotless nonsense. The disgusting chewing and the screaming kid was just gross. This is up there with the stupidity of Killing of a Sacred Deer, and any other movie you can think of that doesn’t care to draw in the viewer with an actual plausible storyline (even if it’s fantasy, it still has to make sense).

glostarz999 3 points 4 years ago.

Killing of a Sacred Dear is a brilliant film. All of Yorgos Lanthimos’s films are fantastic. For me he’s one of the most promising and exciting directors working in the world today. I love his stuff.

I have always heard of how highly regarded his works were, but I never got around to watching them until recently. I still haven’t seen much, only Chungking Express and these. And I haven’t watched 2046 properly, only bits and pieces. I really want to see Fallen Angels and Ashes in Time.

Chungking Express is a masterpiece. Just so much to love in that film. Makes you really want to eat pineapple and listen to ‘California Dreaming’ over and over and over again. Hah isn’t it funny how these things work for some people and not for others! Maybe it depends on which part of the world you’re in.. Drag for me as a lot of old foreign movies just appear here on Clip and Aparat and i can’t seem to use either. I’ll try to find UBlock.. I’ve even successfully used Streamz occasionally, see.. Funny!! Thanks for your reply anyhow, yeah i just got a wee fit of frustration at yet another movie i won’t be able to watch :))x

glostarz999 2 points 3 years ago.

If you really did manage to get Streamz to work then you’re a better man than me mate. I use adblock plus and Ublock origin in tandem on chrome and if a hosting site doesn’t like that then usually just turning one or the other off works fine to get the video to play without being bombarded with ads and pop ups. glostarz999 2 points 4 years ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Are you people for real? Apologists for a kiddie fiddler just because you like his music? You can separate art from the artist in your head you know. I love Roman Polanski’s movies while still recognising that the man who made them is a dreadful human being. Michael Jackson was a nonce. He groomed and buggered young boys and then he bought his way out of it. God bless the American legal system for that. And it’s laughable to suggest that his skin colour (or lack of it in his later years) had anything to do with it. He was a sick pervert. Jimmy Savile gave a lot to charity too here in the UK. That and the bribes to the police and his favours to politicians are what made him pretty much untouchable until after his death. That’s just how deviants like Savile and Jackson operate. Give yourself a cloak of respectability so that nobody will suspect you. Those defending him on this thread aren’t doing themselves any favours.

A MESSAGE TO WHOEVER IT IS THAT UPLOADS THESE OLD MOVIES.. Posting on Clipwatching and Aparat is frankly an unkindness to viewers like myself.. i can NEVER watch ANY of these interesting old flicks you post here. CLIPWATCHING.com says “Disable ADBLOCK in order to continue viewing”.. i tried that 2 yrs ago but it still says the same message and won’t open try as i might. APARAT.com is just a hog-fest of unwanted ads which come cascading at you when you try to connect in spite of ADBLOCK, and they keep on coming even after you close them, too frustrating to manage actually watching the movie, i’ve NEVER managed to watch ANY of the movies you kindly posted here on these IMPOSSIBLE links. PLEASE NOTE, OTHER CLEANER LINKS REQUIRED FOR EVERYTHING YOU POSTED like EVER! MIXDROP or DOOD or some of the others work fine in spite of their pop-ups which can easily be dealt with.. When i see CLIPWATCHING and APARAT listed my heart just sinks as i know they won’t work.. PLEASE could you find suitable alternatives. I KNOW.. i should ask for links elsewhere but this is something different, a GENERAL PLEA for better connections. UPLOADERS, HUGE RESPECT for all your efforts on our behalf, helping to keep everyone sane through these difficult times, but Please NB! THANKS :((x

glostarz999 2 points 3 years ago.

I don’t think that its that simple mate. Aparat works fine for me, as does Clipwatching MOST of the time. Other people have issues with Mixdrop and Doodwatch. I have no problems with ANY of them at present. Not sure WHY that is. Only site that NEVER works is that Streamz nonsense for me and that’s the ONLY site that has EVER told me to turn off adblock. Maybe try some different adblock extensions or a different browser maybe? Give Ublock a go. Best of luck mate. I understand your frustration and you have my sympathy.

The title means “calm”, totally Lovecraftian. lol But the subject is dark and evil, showing the sadistic way Soviet Communism twisted it’s great talents into the dust, and it’s consequent collateral damage.

glostarz999 2 points 3 years ago.

In a weird kind of way I do actually associate Lovecraft with ‘calm’ because my ex girlfriend bought me a cuddly plush toy Cthulhu for my birthday about two decades ago and I slept with it on my pillow for years. Think he saved me from quite a few nightmares. He was a cute little bugger but I must have lost him moving house one time. I miss him to be honest. He wasn’t quite as terrifying when he was only nine inches tall and smiling at you and really soft and snuggly. I will just stress here that there was no sex involved. Our relationship was way above any of that mucky stuff. That’s just really nasty and it’s unhygienic too. I will watch this film eventually. Got a hell of a long list of stuff to watch right now and there are only so many hours in a day.

The Immortal (2019)
glostarz999 1 points 4 years ago*.

Hmmm. Not sure what to make of that having not watched season four yet. Seemed a bit just like a vanity project to get Marco D’amore on the directorial ladder and while it was watchable enough I’m not sure that it was absolutely necessary or added much to our understanding of the character of Ciro. Bit like that dull Breaking Bad spin off movie in that respect but at least in that we got to see Badger and Skinny Pete again and also the sadly now late Robert Forster too as the vacuum cleaner guy.RIP Robert.

Edit. Ha ha ha! Already downvoted by trolls. What on Earth was even vaguely contentious about my opinion? Nobody else has even bothered commenting on this movie. Forgive me for trying to pay scant homage to an actor I really liked. How. . . terrible of me. Downvote me more. It’s really giving me the horn.

I haven’t watched the movie and I’m not going to so I probably shouldn’t be even commenting here but I will just mention that I named my newborn Corona just six months ago because I thought that it sounded like a novel and pretty name and we’d just had a lunar eclipse and I was drinking a Corona beer after the event to celebrate too so it just seemed somehow. . . fitting, maybe?

How was I supposed to know that all of this was going to happen back then? I feel like a proper tit now and she’s got that name for life whether she likes it or not and people are going to just stare at her and seethe as soon as they hear it in the future when they remember what it signifies. What have I DONE to her? If I’d just named her Crystal Meth or Marlboro Lights instead then she wouldn’t be stuck with that stigma forever. I’m bloody hopeless when it comes to that kind of thing. You can’t take me anywhere. Well you can but I won’t find my own way home and I’ll probably just embarrass myself by peeing on a war memorial or something while I’m trying to remember where we live and then I’ll soil myself too just to piss of the police when they come to pick me up and throw me in the cells.

glostarz999 1 points 4 years ago*.

I kind of agree with you but if you’re not looking for blood, gore and self indulgence then why are you watching a Tarantino movie? That’s kind of his thing. It’s just what he does. That and unashamedly advertising and showcasing his obsession with female feet. There’s nothing wrong with that of course. If you’re going to develop an odd sexual fetish then the whole foot thing is pretty harmless and just a bit silly compared to some of the other stuff that you often unwittingly stumble across out in the wild, isn’t it? It’s hardly Lisa Stansfield territory.

But surely if you choose to watch one of his films you know exactly what you’re going to get by now? He’s been making the bloody things for quite some time.
