For those of you wishing for more, give Mr. Sunshine a try here or Netflix. It’s an epic tale in Korea and you will learn a lot about the Japanese/US/French/English grab for land after our civil war in the background while loyalty, honor and romance take the lead.

Those were “visions” of how he thought his life would be if he returned to England. He does not. His whole life up to that point had been about his own ambitions and desires, but with Mariko’s sacrifice he is changed, which you see when he offers up his own life to end the suffering of the villagers. With this gesture, we see that he has left his old self behind and has come to finally have some understanding of the Japanese and their customs. We see him surrender his old life and to honor his love for Mariko and her sacrifice, he chooses to serve Toranaga. At least, that’s what I got out of it.

DownrightDebonaire 4 points 8 days ago*.

The sequence being a vision went over my head. I thought it was a flash forward. Thanks for clarifying.

I agree, very good movie. I think the main problem was they hired late 20 somethings to play teens?

Velma (2023)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 13 days ago.

I think Mindy’s humor in general started of quick, quirky and witty on The Mindy Project. By the last two seasons it was nothing but self deprecating humor that went to far and was just mean. Fat & Fart jokes were pretty much the entire schtick of the last few episodes. That type of humor is just not what people expected of Velma a character Gen X, Y and even some Zs grew up on. The jokes are not witty at all they are base and crass.

Sadly this might be the one show that unites Primewire. It’s not Woke, it’s not Fascist it’s just trash. No one wants to hear the bad-ass genius Velma whine all day and act like a lovesick lunatic ex-girlfriend.

NCIS: Origins
Piglet 1 points 13 days ago.

Here is more information on the spinoff……Robert Taylor is set to play a recurring role in CBS’ new series, NCIS: Origins. Taylor who is best known for playing Sheriff Walt Longmire on the Wyoming crime drama Longmire for six seasons will play Jackson Gibbs, the strict father of Leroy “Jethro” Gibbs in Origins, which is set to premiere during the 2024-25 television season. Mark Harmon played Jethro in the original NCIS series, which featured the late Ralph Waite as Jackson. Austin Stowell is set to play the role of young Jethro in the upcoming NCIS prequel, which takes place in the 1990s. Harmon will narrate the show, which will co-star Kyle Schmid, Mariel Molino, Diany Rodriguez, Tyla Abercrumbie, Daniel Bellomy and Caleb Martin Foote.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 13 days ago*.

I’m definitely going to watch it. But to be honest I really appreciate all the world building they do away from Gibbs. I thought it was going to be an origins story for NCIS as an agency and the nerd in me was digging that concept. Similar to the season in Criminal Minds where they went back and showed how the unit began.

This will be good - NCIS can do no wrong! ( I include spin-offsa that never made it to air)

The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)
Rodjenka 4 points 3 years ago.

You might think that as a Star Wars fan & one that never heared of this “special” that you should definitely watch it. You would be wrong. Maybe wait until the holidays? No.
This will ruin Star Wars & X-mas for you. This was buried in a galaxy far away & for the longest time only available on bootlegs & now its here. Highlight are rare & that’s probably why Carrie Fisher appears drunk the entire time. The absolute highlight is Jefferson Starship giving a one-take performance with glowing Dildo mics (yes, that happened)

DownrightDebonaire 2 points 13 days ago.

Wow I wish I had read this review. I thought it would be funny hahah — no, this is tragic bad. No this was awful. There must have been great drugs in giant bowls all around the writer’s room. No, scratch that. From start to finish every one from writers to actors were stoned out of their minds. I don’t know how this made it to screen. It’s always been joked about and I finally sat down to watch all of star wars in chronological order and this came up. Long scenes of creepy looking Vidal Sassoon Wookie’s screaming.

I made it maybe 6 min before I started fast forwarding through it

how do you know the episodes are in the wrong order?
its just six episodes not much to change there.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 2 months ago.

The end of the last episode did not match with the beginning of the next. Since my last post The production company released a statement saying they did air them out of order. They posted episode 3 instead of 2.

I really like the main actor and have been anxiously awaiting him carrying another show. I just hope this doesn’t get cancelled because the producers mess around with it. I think it fills the hole left by Big Sky Country.

Tracker (2024)
DownrightDebonaire -2 points 2 months ago.

This show is taking a turn that in that past has proven to be negative. They are second guessing their production & marketing plan and broadcasting the shows out of order. I remember they started doing that way back with 80s/90s shows like Quantum Leap, Star Trek and others. They are panicking that the show won’t be immediately successful and they are cherry picking what they think are the most sensational episodes to bring in the audience loyalty faster, instead of building to it. That is fine when it comes to the new person - new story - new state-each episode formula. It essentially doesn’t matter for shows like that, but makes the back story of the main character out of order and confusing.

I hope after all the social media complaints they continue with the shows broadcasting in the intended order so we get the main character’s back story correctly.

Nice way to leave it. The last season was very… fast. I think production was working at warp speed. Toby wears the same 3 blue shirts for 13 episodes. I think they learned their lesson with reshoots in Season 4 when “Michelle’s” hair fell out (in real life) and they had to use a terrible Party City wig for a few episodes for reshoots.

Great episode. Love how it was directed, especially the segways. So I looked up who directed the episode- Lea Thompson of Back to the Future, Caroline in the City and most recently Spencer Sisters fame. Cool to see Actors succed in different roles in the industry.

So much gut wrenching disappointment in her surrender. F- those garbage bags! If any of you have wondered how people confess to things they didn’t do, imagine that garbage bag conversation going on for 10hrs straight. That’s what an interrogation is like. If you’ve ever wondered how people in reality tv make those stupid/mean sound bites when they do the confessional type interviews, the story producers make them answer the same question over and over again until they say the mean thing they want. They won’t let them leave set until they get what they want. I truly felt her pain when she said “Can we go home now”

Constellation (2024) S1 E3
greyfur 3 points 2 months ago.

It’s starting to have that effect on me as well. There’s a couple other shows coming up I have been kind of been waiting for, and if they are worth it, I’ll probably drop this unless it picks up, or starts explaining itself a bit better.
No doubt, like a lot of things, if there was a book, or series of them, the reading of it was a lot better then the watching. I’m a bit more limited now on how much of my time I’m willing to spend now. Getting a cold at the moment, so will probably spend a bit of time going brain dead, but after that, I’ll go back to what I’ve been doing, and won’t have a lot of time to spend watching.

DownrightDebonaire 3 points 2 months ago.

Agreed. I had to stop the 2nd episode 15 min in and start over because I was so lost. I’m back on track, but losing interest in the setup they are trying to establish.

The Swiss never chose neutrality. They chose/choose green. Their decisions are all centered on their economics - banks and information (secrets) . They made a decision to choose themselves. There’s never a real moral “we are choosing neither side”.

to be fair, you started this off by calling someone stupid. That’s not very respectful or compassionate to someone who has a different opinion - one that didn’t attack any group or people.

At this point on this site people on opposite sides have gone so far to the end of the curve that they are meeting each other on the other side with petty comments held over from previous convos. we could all do better.

Seems they kind of dismissed all of the super natural vision stuff in the finale. So was that just side effect hallucinations from the poison produced from the mines?

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 2 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I think that by having the Chief find the cross in her hair and pick up an orange — they were connecting her and Navarro. So they are telling us that part was really happening and not from the toxins. How else would the Chief have the same hallucination as Navarro without discussing them? Most of the other stuff was explained by the cleaning warriors. I think they did a good job overall of showing how a lot of shamanistic/nature based cultural spiritualities stuff ca lead to results (finding the cave) while also being explained or proven with science (sleep deprivation, toxins in the water/ice, several head injuries, and early signs of hyperthermia).

The Endgame (2022)
irdulili 1 points 2 years ago.

Try not to gasp in unison but I just read NBC has cancelled this series. Why does NBC keep buying slow burners if they are just going to can the show right when it starts getting good? It’s become a cliche at this point.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 2 months ago.

NBC and the other primetime networks have a trend of making high production-fast paced-sexy spy/con-artist type shows that are pg-13-ish and cancelling them even when they have good numbers. The Catch, End Game, The Company You Keep all fall under this umbrella. I could tell from the pilot people would love it but the network cancels it. If there’s sexy leads making lots of quips and no semi-nudes or explicit sex scenes they get the axe before mid season.
USA/TNT/streaming services have had huge success with the same genre. Quantico, Burn Notice, White Collar, Imposters, Covert Affairs, Graceland.

Sometimes there reasoning is very thin. The Company You keep was up against heavy hitters. There numbers were not bad. EndGame didn’t have horrible numbers, it’s just they expected it to have Blacklist/Blindspot numbers day 1.

It’s not a perfect formula but if the show is high production and cheeky, but shows no cheeky cheeky, It’ll be gone next season.

The Listener (2009)
DownrightDebonaire 1 points 2 months ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

I binged season 1 yesterday and I have to say the first three episodes are full of plot holes and move really fast. Some hint or glimpse of an image and Toby is across town climbing in a window to save the day based on thin evidence and a hunch- laws be damned! This guy needs to see Minority report.
I do like that it’s not the same typical consultant show (US) , where some arrogant consultant solves crimes for the PD while being a total anti-hero jerk to his colleagues (think Scorpion, Lie to me, Bull, Elementary, Numbers etc.) It will be interesting to watch him solve crime while helping people directly. That being said, the over saturated dyed hair, pancake makeup and weird filter make the first season pretty hard to watch. They look like aliens with auras. It’s similar to the AI filters now. I’m breezing through them since they are all 38min long.

Season two is a little easier on the eyes and the storylines are more creative.

Season 3 they’ve removed the filter, and heavy makeup. All of a sudden people have freckles, 5’oclock shadows and look human. Toby is now on a police taskforce and it’s really disappointing to see the job go in that direction. I really enjoyed the EMS angle and making him a cop seems well - lazy writing. Keeping his cover was what made the first two seasons fun. Now half the 1st responders know he’s psychic.

Ok I finally watched all of this and from the very beginning it was giving Lost Girl + Wicked City vibes. I thought they were going to outright label her a succubus but I am glad they took a more creative route. The acting was much better than Wicked City but was still rooted in Black female witchcraft that is ancestor focused instead of lots of physical powers like other shows. I hope in the next season they explore other forms of witchcraft by building out the other women in the coven who have powers. I would also like to see the other covens in their area.

I gave Sanctuary a chance. I didn’t think the first episode was as bad as it was bland and unmemorable. I can’t remember ANYthing from the episode I watched two days ago. If it was me, I would have made sure the contract as an Executive Producer was for the length of the True Detective series “in perpetuity” . Not just season 1. Then you still paid, no matter where the creative direction of the show goes. Plus Woody and Matthew would have the clout to ask that in the contract of a new series IMO.

DownrightDebonaire 2 points 3 months ago.

People do that. It’s gotten a little weird with anthology shows - keeping on actors turned execs for the duration of the series even though they were only in the first season, like this one. Another thing actor/exes have been doing is getting it in the contract that they have the right to work on the spin-offs or reboots. Example- Charmed. The original actresses I believe all* (I doubt dougherty) had the options of exec producing the reboot a decade later. I’m sure when ratings start to fall, they will flex their muscle and cast themselves to boost ratings.
