I agree completely. Roseanne was never my favorite character. I still love this show, even without her. Not much has changed. Jackie and Darlene have always been my favorite characters. And now they have Katey Sagal which is awesome. Still loving it.

Cool, isn’t it? 😀 To add one more I liked hearing, I recall in “The Pillars of the Earth” series how people took their trades and skills as surnames. Example: in the story, there was a Tom Builder, and a Caris Wooler. In real world, I know surnames were often descriptive in this way, from around the Middle Ages.

Yeah and the names have cognates in other languages like “Smith” would have been a blacksmith’s family, the name Kovacs means the same thing in Hungarian…

You’re welcome… Year, in Iceland families will will have siblings with Ivarsson and Ivarsdottir as the last names. There are other forms of patronyms and names derived from patronyms in cultures all over… In Russian the “middle” name is the father’s name, plus -vich The O’ in Irish names and Mc in Scottish names… Spanish names that end in -ez… Like Alvarez, Ferdnandez.. it’s a common naming system

Could I ask a question of someone here who is of Scandinavian heritage and/or speaks a northern language? My question is, Why is she not called Rebecka Martinsdottir? I notice in some of the shows I view from Scandi countries, -son ends male names, while -dottir (daughter) ends female ones. Not sure if this is only done in Iceland, or if it’s elsewhere as well. I watch a lot of stuff; this particular show is Swedish….

I’m not scandinavian but my understanding is that Icelanders tend to still use the patronymic naming system in the same way the entire Norse culture originally did. The rest of the Scandinavian countries use “surnames” like most of the rest of western countries. Many Scandinavian surnames are derived from the old patronymical names, usually in the masculine form of -son or -sen.

This is one of my favorites… very well written, top notch production, first class acting by everyone… They address the real issues of the times, the historical events, the bombing of a nightclub in berlin, operation Able Archer, The Jacklyl. Reminds me of watching the news with my grandmother during the cold war

I saw the twist coming near the end, but i was TOTALLY wrong regarding the person involved…that was a GREAT episode! Truth be told, female serial killers really are the rarest of Unicorns, there has only been a handful throughout known history comparatively speaking. Can’t WAIT to see next episode, it’s gonna go DOWN!! I HATE mid season finales!! Gotta wait until February! ACK!!

I watched this when it aired originally. It is a truly awesome TV show. It’s plot is original, it’s got Great charachters, great actors, great poducxtion. I highly reccomend this series and give it 9.6/10

I heard there is an american as well as a possible german version both in the early stages of development… I agree the brits make really good “noir-ish” serials, 2nd only to the Scandinavians. The american versions of The Bridge and The Killing were ok. The Tunnel (The British/French show based on The Bridge) was really good for the most part. CBS/NBC and ABC in America churn out “procedurals” for the masses, some are pretty good, some suck. Our newer networks in America (AMC,FX,Fox) etc… have put out some really awesome original series. I try not to get too attached… If I truely like a show it usually winds up getting cancelled!

(ps i remember the alcoholic episode from the Norwegian series(this one is totally different) that inspired me to get a prescription for a drug that makes you ill (not kill you ) when you consume alcohol that really helped me stop 20 years of drinking like a chef, so that show always had a soft spot in my heart )

Watched all 8 episodes. I enjoyed it. They developed decent characters gave it some good plot twists. I feel the original had more depth, but many people will probably see this without ever seeing valkyerin so they won’t feel like anything is off.

I watched the first 4 episodes. I like it. It’s based on the series from Norway called Valkyrien staring Sven Nordin which was excellent… I had heard there was a British retelling in the works, so far it does the original justice

Just binged on season 2… It’s a little hard to keep track of who is who and when at some points, but I really liked it. The story, the acting, and production are all top notch
