i watched this show religiously for 23 years. Couldn’t wait until the next season came on. Last season (S.24) for some reason, it just did nothing for me anymore. I didn’t watch most of that season, and I’m going to put it on my dropped list. Bye, SUV. You were a good friend for a long time.

I’m sorry to hear that you suffer from that illness, I am bipolar as well. More mania then depression but when I get depressed I become suicidal. Now if Amy is bipolar then they should know that sleep is very elusive and that she not just staying awake all night because she wants too. I wish I could reach out to help her in some way

AmieWarren 1 points 3 months ago.

It pisses me off that the whole tv crew is around here all the time, yet they don’t help her because they need the drama for tv. WTAF?? To let someone become that sick, possibly suicidal, and just keep filming it should be illegal.

I was wondering if there was post-partum happening with everything else! Her youngest is not that old and moms can have issues with it for a long time after giving birth! She definitely needs to get some help!

AmieWarren 1 points 3 months ago.

I was wondering this too. Also, what pisses me off is that the crew is just filming away and not trying at all to help her, because they need the drama for t.v. Grrrrr….

oh wow I didn’t realize she has alopecia. She is a very sweet woman. Also I think Chris’ laugh is funny. It’s more a nervous laugh I think. Also I think Amy needs a couple weeks on a mental floor, to get her medication right and she really needs a rest from the chaos. It’s no good having all that chaos when she’s that depressed.

AmieWarren 2 points 3 months ago.

They said at one time that she was bipolar? Someone asked Tammy if Amy had been taking her meds. If she’s bipolar and off her meds, that explains a lot. I worry so much for her. I have major depression, and I know what it’s like to feel like she feels. I’ve had to go to the hospital a few times to get straightened out. There is no shame in it. It’s a disease.

I’ve been watching this show since it began. I just want to make a couple remarks. I love this family and if anyone knows a man out there that is just like Chris and single, let me know because I want him. I just love his sense of humor. Everything about him is what a woman would want in a man.

AmieWarren 2 points 3 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

He really loves his family, I will give him that. His laugh is annoying, but he is a sweet guy who does what it takes to take care of them. I believe he worked (maybe still does) as a manager at McDonald’s before he got a place on the show. His wife is very sweet and quiet, and obviously loves him very much. I wish she could get some treatment for her alopecia, because I’ve seen pics of her before she had it and she is very cute.

You know, Amy is right. Amanda does try to lord over everybody and boss everybody around. She’s a very large and aggressive woman (not large as in fat, large as in tall and large framed) who has some anger issues. That being said, Amy needs serious psychological help. I hope she gets it before this seaaon is up. I don’t watch much reality TV, but for some reason, I really want to cheer on this family that is trying so hard just to survive and get healthy. Life is rough when you don’t have money, and they don’t get paid much by this show.

I get that, I am old and Canadian enough to get frustrated by the current culture trying to change past cultures. Canada was/is incredibly racist as well. I don’t believe that even fantastical stories that whitewash the past have any real purpose.

AmieWarren 2 points 3 months ago.

Same. I just take it for what it is — an escape for reality for an hour a week. I left my home state to get away from the racism there, and moved to what used to be a pretty cool state — Florida — but now the ultra-magas have taken over the state and it’s just one big, long mini civil war. When I moved here, there was maybe one murder a year. Now they’re shooting each other up all over town. I wish I could move somewhere else, but that takes money. It is what it is.

Murdoch Mysteries (2008) S17 E5
FilmNoir17 -3 points 3 months ago.

Right? I also am frustrated by the way they give black & gay people waaaay more power, freedom and authority than what was true to this time in history. It’s a slap in the face for anyone who has fought for equality.

AmieWarren 2 points 3 months ago.

Remember, this was in Toronto CANADA, not the U.S. They were a lot less racist against blacks, but since it was predominantly Catholic at that time, they were very prejudiced against gays. They were also racist against their indigenous people. Still, it’s not true to history, but then, it’s based on a series of cozy novels, so what do you expect? Fantasy, all of it.

I do not trust that doctor. He’s a sly one. As for the Trenchard brothers, I know what it’s like to try to reconcile with a sibling who hurt you, only to see they have not changed at all, in fact, they’ve gotten worse. Frederick is right. Sometimes it’s better to walk away.

Watched this years ago, but would gladly watch it again. Absolutely amazing show that really makes you think. I loved Jason Mamoa in this because he showed real emotions. It doesn’t take much to be a beloved action movie star. Just being large, attractive, and able to remember lines is pretty much all is required. I could make a long list of crappy actors that have been very successful with this model.

AmieWarren 3 points 3 months ago.

Johnny’s looking more like his old self since the trial ended. He’s lost some weight and he finally seems content and happy. I believe much of his drink and drug used stemmed from his very unhappy life with the crazy wife.

AmieWarren 1 points 3 months ago.

I knew she was abusing him long before the trial. You could just see in pictures at events where he was overweight, greasy hair, looked beat down and she looked so haughty. I’m so glad he’s rid of her. I just wish Hollywood would come around and start putting him into decent movies again.

I think Amy needs a couple weeks on a mental ward. Everyone has a breaking point if she really is bipolar etc. I know I had one of my worse break downs at her age. I completely snapped and went into psychosis due to my bipolar. I’m afraid for the children at this point. She needs time to just work on herself. Also it is well known that woman with mental illness when have one baby after another causes postpartum and postpartum psychosis. They all think she’s feeling sorry for herself but I believe it’s way more than that.

These episodes air way after the events happen. Besides, he has no income, lives with his parents, and Amy has a lot of family support. She just needs some psychiatric help. I feel for her, because I was a single mom with two kids, and it’s hard as hell. I broke down once.

Just a few seconds into this series, I think to myself, “Is that the actor from Joe Pickett and For All Mankind and why does he have an Aussie accent? I’ll continue to watch the first episode…stay tuned or watch it yourself…..

AmieWarren 1 points 4 months ago.

NZ accents pronounce ‘e’ as a long ‘e’, no matter where it is in the word….well, except at the end. It’s like ‘merry’ is pronounced ‘meery’ and ‘yes’ is pronounced ‘yees.’ Aussies don’t do that, that I can tell.

You can’t compare an indie film with a limited release in select theaters with a major studio film that will open in over 1,500 locations. Actually, a satisfactory ending would be another season to see where everyone ended up. We know where Darby ended up, but there is so much left unfinished. I don’t like unfinished endings, but that’s just me. I like things tied up in a tight little bow.

A Murder at the End of the World (2023) S1 E7
grasshopper rex 1 points 4 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I don’t know how this could have ended any other way. It is a classic whodunit and that puzzle was solved. Any attempt to hold someone accountable would require several more episodes and take the show into the realm of court procedurals. Let’s be honest, if this was a real case those wanting justice would have been disappointed anyway. It would be almost impossible to prove intent or negligence in a criminal court even if it didn’t involve someone so powerful and wealthy. A civil case could have been persued and possibly won, but with that kind of wealth it would be even less than a slap on the wrist. No, there is no “satisfying” conclusion to this story to be had as it was written.

AmieWarren 2 points 4 months ago.

This is the problem with shows based on books. If the book has an unsatisfying ending, so will the show, and nothing can be done unless it’s a series and they choose to carry forward with the story in subsequent seasons. I’m getting annoyed with the book-based limited series, and I don’t know if I want to watch them anymore.

A Murder at the End of the World (2023) S1 E7
grasshopper rex 2 points 4 months ago.

You would think that the algorithm training that Grok got would have been less restrictive than that given to other AIs given what a strong proponent of “free speech” that he claims to be. Granted, it does have a potty mouth, but it appears to be much more liberal-minded than I would have expected. The way it roasted Musk when prompted to do was epic.

AmieWarren 3 points 4 months ago.

I’m sure he’s working on getting rid of the liberal aspect. He only allows free speech for people who think like him — hmmm…..sounds sorta like one of our ex-presidents. All narcissists are alike. They create things in their own image, because they think they have no faults.

Not an attack…just conversing.
Why would we need to see Andy imprisoned? He did not purposely drive Ray to do what he did. This is yet another product “showing” how an AI will evolve and act on what it makes of putting 2 and 2 together. In Darby’s words, Andy “mated his therapy bot with his security bot.” Ray then used Zoomer as his physical “tool” to take out the threat(s). I think that Andy will continue to work on his AI, thinking that he can steer the AI…mistake! I do agree with you that it makes sense for Andy to ceaselessly search for his son…his ego will not let go of Zoomer that easily.
But honestly, I’m good with where it ended. I don’t think it’s enough to explore in another season. As much as I enjoy Marling/Batmanglij products, they don’t seem to have much luck selling any follow-on…too bad for us!

AmieWarren 3 points 4 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Andy should at least be charged with involuntary manslaughter, because he created Ray. It’s like if a self-driving Tesla ran over and killed someone, Musk would be responsible because the buck stops with him. Of course, the child would not be culpable, as he did not know what he was doing. You can’t escape responsibility by saying “I didn’t know that would happen if I did such and such.” Our laws must be updated to deal with these possibilities in the future.

Maybe not another season, but at least a movie to wrap it all up. I just don’t like endings where you have to imagine what you would like to happen.

Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Piglet 1 points 4 months ago*.

My great-grandmother was Cherokee and sadly, my maternal side of the family doesn’t acknowledge their great-grandmother/grandmother was Cherokee. Nor do they mention that Jesse James is related to them. In fact, I had a great uncle I knew nothing about until I did some research. My grandmother never mentioned her older brother. I asked a 2nd cousin about the uncle and all she would say was that he was the black sheep of the family. Which didn’t tell me much, but it had to be bad for whatever he did for my grandmother to never mentioning him. I don’t think my mother knew about him either since she never mentioned him. She was the type of mother who would have used him as a warming to not be bad. But she never did.

AmieWarren 1 points 4 months ago.

If you know your great-grandmother’s name, you can contact the Cherokee Nation and they will help you register with them, but you have to be able to prove the connection through documents like birth certificates, etc. I contacted them and gave them my Cherokee ancestor’s name, and they found it in their records, and the record of the marriage, because her husband (my family tie) was an Indian Agent at the time (1700s) and there was a record of him and his marriage to her. I can’t join the nation as a blood relative, becuse it’s not my direct line, but I can still participate as a relative by marriage.
