did you ask for a trailer https://youtu.be/s_76M4c4LTo and it looks good

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 3 months ago.

Oh dear that was an AWFUL trailer. Not saying the movie is trash quite yet, but the trailer was really tragic if it’s meant to pull audiences is for a new fresh story line with all the stuff that’s out there. The music is like a CW ad for the Secret Circle or another one of their sci-fi attempts - very 2010 or earlier.

Not a lot of confidence building with the lines they chose to use and scenes they pulled to make the trailer. Before I even recognized the lead actress, it was giving 50 Shades of Web vibes.

Didn’t hear a single thing about this movie until seeing it pop up on the dash today. Some movies lately they haven’t been advertising at all.

Anyway I watched Across the Spiderverse Yesterday with my nephew. It was good. But I noticed that the school counselor’s last name was Web. I thought that she must be one of the many Spiderverse incarnations. I thought at the end they were going to say she was supposed to be the one bit in their universe, but nope. Anyway, is she supposed to be the grown up Madame Web? Related? Who is the counselor referencing? Spiderman was not my go to comic when I was a kid.

A pleasant surprise. The lead wasn’t too over the top for the pilot. Most buddy crime shows like this where one is not a cop and they are opposite genders- tends to over do it in the pilot. I laughed out loud at one point because I was thinking the banter reminded me of Private Eyes and then Jason Priestly jumps on screen. They even reference Castle, so they know their audience.

This show might not be for a lot of people. But I love the family friendly buddy crime shows that Canada is great at doing.

Yes the spin-off fizzled out. But there was a reunion in 2023 and the rumor is the reunion was done to get buzz because they are doing a Reboot now, not a spin-off. I will continue to hold my breath for that. Spin-offs only work when they are booted while the flagship show is on air or just left.

oh bizarre. Must be a southern thing. Up north we have these tiny rinky dink “trucks” with no bed that deliver the mail. That’s cool thanks!

DownrightDebonaire 6 points 3 months ago*.

It’s not a southern thing. The residential local neighborhood mailbox trucks and jeeps have the steering on the right side. So they can stick mail in the box directly on the right side of the street without getting out. This has been the standard in the US for I don’t know, since ticky tacky little box house neighborhoods existed.

It’s pretty cool cause you can buy the retired jeeps and trucks for dirt cheap. I want to make a micro camper out of a mail truck. My friends in high school would buy them for their punk bands to move gear,

I really disliked that show and didn’t feel like anything was left out by me not finishing it. I’ve Seen CPT. Marvel but back when it came out and I watched both Ms. Marvel and Secret Invasion. CPT+MS. Marvel are really the only two I personally think you need to see. Because of secret Invasion and Hawkeye I kept questioning where in the timeline things were falling and it was distracting my attention at times

The Marvels (2023)

Finally got a chance to see this film and I really enjoyed it. I attempted 5 times to see it in theaters and each time there were not enough times/locations to go. It seemed like even the theaters were not really supporting it from the first week. How could so many people around us openly hate it so much if no one showed went to see it? There was only a really awful TS version on all the sites for over a month. All that to say, I think the backlash of people angry at Barbie is what affected the turnout to this film more than anything because, so many people left that film angry that they were loaded for bear when this one came out.

I think the key to liking this is remembering the vibe of the latest MCU movies, esoecially Spidermen movies, plus Hawkeye. They are more pitched towards a younger MCU audience and they are passing the torch as mentors to the new generation of heroes. They are all starting younger than when we first got Hulk, Ironman and Capt. America. All the MCU since Thor Love and Thunder have had a more fun & campy vibe from different directors. This was refreshing after the Nick Fury spycraft-focused series that was dark and twisty and Loki. I would watch this again, and watch it with the kids before I ever pay to see another Ant Man movie. we all have different tastes, thankfully there’s enough in the MCU for all of us.

Up until the finale I would have given this a 5/5. From the ridiculous helicopter scene until the firing squad scene there were really stylized overly dramatic shots. I was with you guys until those eye rolling 5 minutes. It was just missing some Bay doves and a wrap around 360 shot of Reacher breathing hard shirtless.

I give it a 4.5 for the season. 3.5 for the episode haha that’s how much I did not like those 5 min!

Slow Horses (2022) S3 E6
grasshopper rex 3 points 4 months ago.

I like that the show isn’t bloated with filler like most are now. Each episode is so rich with detail that I rewatch the previous season before a new one drops and the story is just as delightful as the 1st time.

DownrightDebonaire 2 points 4 months ago.

Most UK shows are. I could talk for hours about why but that’s another day. I would like one more episode that wraps up the mayhem. There was so much in the preview for next season, it seems like they filmed one 12 episode season and split it into two 6episode ones instead.

Fargo (2014) S5 E1
augusts1 3 points 4 months ago.

Great to know. I just watched the 2nd epi & it was just as riveting. All the characters are intriguing due to the acting. There’s also some unexpected humor too sprinkled throughout. Despite knowing all the pieces (or thinking that I do, we’ll see) the storytelling really keeps you in suspense. There’s always surprises right around the corner in the Fargo universe though.

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 4 months ago.

I know Fargo has this unique weirdness. After the 1st episode I asked myself, “Do you really want to watch this stupidity?” Maybe it’s the Minnesota accent that gets on my nerves and I think the southern drawl is bad at times (some southern accents are okay but not many). I think I’ll move onto something else…..

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 4 months ago.

The accents are really over the top and exaggerated, moving on was your best option it just gets more surreal with the characters.

I didn’t see HTGAWM, but everybody in Scandal was focked up in the head. Not a sane one amongst them, but that’s just the government. Gabi is f’d up due to childhood trauma, and she’s definitely devolving right now. What is strange is she finally escaped from Sir, but then captured him and imprisoned him. It’s like she doesn’t want to be free of him. A sort of mysterious love-hate relationship. Can we say “addicted to drama?”

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 4 months ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

In the end of the previous episode she said that she was locked in the basement. She wasn’t lying. By bringing Sir home and imprisoning him, she is essentially imprisoning herself with him.

This would easily bring up discussions of Stockholm syndrome on the show — But I recently saw a segment on TV about how that theory is false and anecdotal. There’s no real evidence of it and the person who first circulated it as a paper never did any studies.

Just did a full Rewatch of the show. It really went out with a bang instead of a fizzle. Other shows like Happily Ever After went off the rails in the last season seeking new adventures and gimmicks to bring in ratings. This one stays pretty on focus until the last season which is a half of a season. The ending is cute and left it open ending. I was hoping for a spin-off but they never went that route. Rumor has it a reboot is on it’s way!

I agree with all you’ve said. Not the greatest show to begin with, but this episode was just too much to swallow. One of the things I most liked in the premise behind both Scandal and HTGAWM was the idea of a smart, head-screwed-on-straight black professional woman who paid the cost and IS a boss. I’m black myself; it was gonna be fun to see such a character, I thought. But in each case, the shows hinted and teased (for a few outings, to get you interested) at this satisfying ideal, only to devolve into some nutty parody of a shrew who’s lost her mind. Olivia beating someone to death with a chair (!); Viola working with teacher’s pets in a murder plot (!); and this woman Gabi who is involved in the worst scenario EVER - her live-in criminal chained in the basement (!!)
I mean, do they ALL have to be touched in the head? Am I asking for too much?

DownrightDebonaire 2 points 4 months ago*. (Contains Spoilers)

Yeah I think the formula for HtGAWM and Scandal was that these headstrong characters have to have a figurative body in the basement (that always revolves around a fragile white man) to balance out their megalomania. With this one they went and literally put a body in the basement. Come on, I can get down with that but not the shouting outbursts, stalking teens, and violence, on top of it.

This was my least favorite episode thus far but it’s still better than a lot of procedurals that are out there. It’s good. Totally watchable thanks to the dynamic of Muscle + Officer (They’ve both got a few shows under their belts). If it weren’t for them, joking back and forth it would tank. Suzy, the veteran actor, phoned it in on this one.

Unfortunately it brings nothing new to the table. The ending is telegraphed a mile away and it is basically a script where someone sat down with Kaleidoscope, Money Heist and Army of Thieves/Dead and cut and paste a script. From the really unnecessary customs masks, to the flip flopping timelines and stylized sets and costumes. Seriously an assassin in all white?

It’s good but not rewatchable good.

I recognize the lack of compassion and empathy in me (I blame my choices of TV/Film “entertainment”), but the same speech over and over and over again coming from the exact same idiots would make me open fire from word one! Of course, writers are to blame (as well as whoever is standing in for them) for putting out such repetitive drivel.
Maybe there is some hope for me since I hung in there expecting an uptick in quality. Nah! Just insanity!

DownrightDebonaire 1 points 5 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I blame the “Showrunners” They turned this show into a giant ego stroke. Why do y’all think at the end of every episode you’re forced to sit in their bland crappy apartments and listen to them pat themselves on the back about the decisions they made.

They force decisions and pull rank to get done what they want. Then sit around telling everyone how creative they are, when the writers and directors are trying to work around their decisions and egos. Padre was a waste of a season. All the Madison returns BS was awful. So many other options and people they could have brought in from other shows. Just awful.

I think it excelled once Nick was gone. Personally hated that character and agree with Daniel that everything Madison and Alicia touches turns to crap (not that he’s ever been stable enough to make a sound position) . This forced conclusion to the show is awful. Too much going on in the last two episodes. Seriously how many times will Madison almost die?

Ahhhh. I don’t mind slow for the sake of a good story, but this didn’t really seem to have one, at least from the first episode. I have a few that I’m watching now, and culled a lot from the herd, and actually picked up a couple older series at the guidance of someone else, turned out pretty good, will be going through those a little at a time. Was hoping this would be good, but just as well, I really don’t have the time to get over loaded with this much watching anymore, am already falling behind with what’s on my schedule. Appreciate the info.

The slow opening with holes felt like it was ripped straight out of the Dark Matter Pilot episode.

What is awkward and unsettling is that the two leads go from trying to kill each other to best friends and hinting at future possible lovers so quickly with nothing in between. Yes they share in the traumatizing invasion, but over all it at times seems like a ton of scenes were cut. From one scene to the next they all of a sudden have a short hand and trust. Why ? Because they toked a little gravity feedback on the bridge getting high? I was so confused I watched the pilot twice and looped back a few times in the next two episodes to see if scenes were missing (it’s happened before with downloads)

Yea that’s great news. Love the tongue in cheek approach to the show. It gives lots of nods to it’s predecessors in horror movies which is fun too. I was never much of a fan of ‘Friends’ so I wasn’t sure what to expect from Courtney Cox since I hadn’t seen her in anything since that. Good news for those of us who love Highlander! With the recent news that the long-in-development Highlander reboot has taken a significant step forward. Indications are that a new Highlander trilogy of movies might essentially cover the same plot and timeframe of the entire original movie, showing Henry Cavill’s character grow and change over centuries, allowing each movie to dive deeper into the world of Immortals. We never see Christopher Lamber’s Connor McLoud have any serious relationships with other Immortal characters beyond his mentor, but it sounds like the reboot will deal with a lot more of that. It looks like the new Highlander will try and tell a story that fans will love, while also making the world the Immortals live in far more compelling.

They are based on books I’ve never read. It’s nothing like Mists of Avalon, or other Excaliber mystical storylines.

That being said the last 3 episodes have been focused on Arthur declaring his word as his bond, loyalty & honor are the true reason to stand with him, then immediately goes against his word through acts of disloyalty or dishonorable decisions. I think people are not ready for an Arthur that isn’t altruistic. If you want to check that out it’s an interesting watch. At the end of the day this is probably how people behaved back then — history is written by the victor with rose colored glasses. Not that this is real history but you know.
