This is a very different role Mark-Paul Gosselaar. He’s usually in control. What’s Gabi’s end game?

They must have, but I haven’t heard any talk about searching for Margaret’s son.
She is truly pathetic.

YgraineDance 1 points 7 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I agree with you about Gosselaar. This is a strange departure for him. And yes, the woman with the missing son is really off the deep end. What on earth is the show going to do with that - have the son show up one day? And, maybe I’m wrong, but for a brief while, I’d assumed that the young woman who’d been imprisoned with Gabi was in on the prisoner ruse…but nope, no one knows about him. Again, what on earth is the show going to do with that situation??? (sorry I’m so bad with names; the only woman I know is Gabi since that’s my nickname too LOL)

The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial (2023)
YgraineDance 2 points 7 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

They did a decent job with staging the courtroom-only section of the great story of Capt. Queeg and his underlings. Everyone remembers the riveting Bogart performance, and here Kiefer Sutherland channels a good portion of that, balancing the levels of sympathy we feel for the character’s distress with unpleasant realizations of his evasiveness and willingness to lie to cover himself. You do feel for Queeg, and also for the lawyer who has to do his job in a way that disgusts him. The original story, set in WW2, has been updated to 2022 here, and there is some cast diversity that wasn’t there in the earlier film.
Overall, an entertaining watch, with the late great Lance Reddick commanding his scenes as always. So sad we’ve lost him.

The Burial (2023)
YgraineDance 1 points 7 months ago.

As soon as I saw a preview, I knew this was my kind of watch. It’s wonderful feel-good fun, with powerhouse performances by Jamie and Tommy Lee, backed up by some excellent cast-mates. This is based on an actual lawyer from the 90s that I hadn’t heard of (or don’t remember) who went up against the big dogs in stunning fashion. Watch for a mid-credit scene where he makes a cameo. Nice touch. Recommended!

The Continental: From the World of John Wick (2023) S1 E3
YgraineDance 1 points 7 months ago.

I liked how well this John Wick prequel turned out. It was exciting, fun, action-packed and involving. Justice was done to the movies that spawned this show, and if this is the end of the franchise, it was a satisfying one IMO. I’ve heard rumors of more coming from the world of Wick, but who knows. This was great!

The Irrational (2023)
Piglet 1 points 7 months ago.

I hadn’t thought of that, but you might be onto something. I like what I’ve seen thus far. Now off to watch the 2nd episode of The Continental…

YgraineDance 2 points 7 months ago.

I just watched ep. 2. I do like The Continental, I just wish they’d stop blasting the (admittedly great) soundtrack every moment of the story! I mean, it’s endless! I know, I know…I’m old….

The Irrational (2023)
YgraineDance 3 points 7 months ago.

This show and “Will Trent” ought to be on back to back; they both feature unusually perceptive men who are dealing with deep personal trauma born of events from decades past. Each man comes across as likeable, with Jesse L. Martin’s “Alec Mercer” having a bit of an edge there (but Robert Rodriguez’ “Will Trent” is catching up over the episodes of his show IMO). Both men are surrounded by coworkers and friends who realize their genius and let them run with their theories, for the most part.
Episode 1 covered quite a bit of exposition and backstory through dialogue and flashbacks, so we learned a lot right away, with a promise of some additional mystery as the main characters make sense of a developing larger picture. So far, so good. I’ll watch.
Now if only someone will bring back “Poker Face.” That one was great!

RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop (2023) S1 E4
YgraineDance 2 points 7 months ago.

Class act all the way. The series never drags or bores; each episode gave me so much more insight into some subtle meanings in scenes and character motivations. “Robocop” star Peter Weller especially offers depth in his literate, thoughtful way. I now wind up loving and appreciating the film even more than before.

Retribution (2023)
YgraineDance 3 points 8 months ago.

I really wanted to see how his character dealt with the fallout from this ordeal. Now THAT would have made the story truly wild!

RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop (2023)
YgraineDance 2 points 8 months ago.

This is one of the best documentaries I’ve watched in a long time. I’ve just finished episode 3 and have enjoyed soooo much of the detail, the backstories, and insights offered by cast, film crew, conceptual artists, stuntpeople, and lots more. “RoboCop” has always been a huge favorite, beloved by fans for its characters and action scenes as well as its savage criticism of modern times through some really witty “ads” sprinkled throughout the movie. There’s a fourth installment listed but it hasn’t aired yet, as far as I know. If you’re a longtime fan, as I am, you will be fascinated to learn about the labor that went into creating this. R.I.P. Miguel Ferrer and Dan O’Herlihy who were not here to reminisce - but pretty much everyone else is interviewed.

Haunting of the Queen Mary (2023)
YgraineDance 7 points 8 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

“The Shining” meets “Ghost Ship” — and the meeting doesn’t go well. There are some nice sets and shots, but the story is confusing as hell, jumping back and forth between different decades. We get some bits of interesting backstories for each of the lead couples, which might have added a lot of depth to things had the film just tried harder to flesh them out. As it is, there’s more of a feeling that we, the audience, have started watching in the middle of a story instead of near the beginning; pieces are missing, making us guess. Not a terrible movie, but it’s not as good as either of the films it heavily leans into.

The Woman in the Wall (2023)
AmieWarren 2 points 8 months ago.

I have it on my Want to Watch list. I’ll probably have it be my next binge on your recommendation.

YgraineDance 1 points 8 months ago.

Yes, bingeing is a good idea. There’s stuff going on with several characters here that sparks interest, and the tale spools out slowly.

The Woman in the Wall (2023)
YgraineDance 5 points 8 months ago.

I knew I had to give this a go on account of excellent actress Ruth Wilson, who was so memorable in “Luther” and other gems. She shines here as a very troubled shell of a woman, the victim and survivor of a horrible social atrocity (Magdelene Convents) committed against girls and women at the hands of (what else?) the Church. Wilson’s ‘Lorna Brady’ is barely hanging onto her sanity, and the viewer is never quite sure about what’s really up with her. But then, Lorna herself isn’t quite sure of things, either. Watch, and you’ll see what I mean. Her life is nightmarish, and you really feel for her plight and for the others who endured cruelty “for their sins.” Two eps. in, and I think I’ll stay for the ride.

Reading that dynamite cast list gives me a lot of hope. I’ll add to my list if others are giving this a thumbs up.

The Winter King (2023)
Mikeonalpha 5 points 8 months ago.

the best film interpretation of the legend is still Boorman’s Excaliber - comes across as over the top and cheesy at times - but it really captured the sense of myth and “magic” of it all. And it was a great cast.

YgraineDance 4 points 8 months ago.

Yes, that was a riveting production. I took my screen name from that one (I deliberately transposed a letter or two to thwart a couple of troll imitators back in the day).

Rambo: Last Blood (2019)

Bravo! A good many cans of whoop-ass were opened during the many entertaining years of thrills and action that Rambo gave us. Well done, Sly and crew. Enjoyed all of the films in the series.

The Winter King (2023) S1 E1
YgraineDance 4 points 8 months ago.

I came across this title purely by accident, looking for something else. Very promising all around! It’s a new interpretation of the Arthur legend, with top quality settings, costumes, and best of all, actors. I’m expecting good things from this series; so glad, too, as I’ve been lamenting the conclusion of “The Last Kingdom” and a few other faves.

I haven’t watched London Kills, I don’t think…? Thanks for the heads-up.

Kill Shot (2023)
YgraineDance 3 points 9 months ago.

Veteran Lifetime, often-shirtless, hottie actor Rib Hillis steps up and becomes writer/producer/still-shirtless hottie actor here in “Kill Shot.” The story revolves around millions in drug money that brings out the criminal insanity in mercs, Seals, and thieves alike. I’m not sure what the budget was for this pic, but it has some great, big-sky Montana location shots. Also, its cast contributed by not only working in front of the cameras, but also behind the scenes, doing double-duty as director, water safety and stunt coordinators, grips, and even performing original songs. There’s a very small scene after the end credits to watch for. Overall not a bad flick; drags in spots but not terribly so.

Lots, but not all, loose ends are tied up in this finale. I was very entertained by all the twists and turns that just kept on coming. This to me is one rare show that is worth a rewatch for a second chance to pick up on sly clues and Mcguffins along the way, especially if you can binge it. Fun miniseries; leaves you satisfied!

I find the baby talk to be really off putting. Agreed, she talks like she’s 10 years old when in reality she’s 20! But that’s what happens when nepotism gives you a role you’re not prepared for. Talking like a baby to make up for lack of acting experience, This is her one and only role on IMDB.

YgraineDance 2 points 9 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I hear ya. I liked the young girl in the original show, remember her? She was taken in by the moonshiner family and “Big Mama” Margo Martindale. She learned her stuff; got good at running her own business, and was doing well. I think it would be fun to see her in this sequel show…but I guess not?

Blood (2023)
YgraineDance 1 points 9 months ago.

This wasn’t bad. I thought it was a little long for the story it was trying to tell, but this was necessary for the fleshing out of characters and predicaments. I had a totally different scenario in mind for the conclusion (my idea was a little more horror-storyish) but this entire movie, while technically a horror, leaned a little more toward drama that incorporated some terror/horror themes within the tale. Monahan did well in her role, as did the little afflicted boy. As I said, not bad; worth a watch but kind of a slow build.

Justified: City Primeval (2023) S1 E2
Moonshot 4 points 10 months ago.

Damn. Hard to imagine there’d be a dumber and more annoying character than Raylan’s ex. But their daughter is giving her a run for her money.

YgraineDance 5 points 9 months ago.

Yes I hate brats like that. I can’t believe this show has written a character this way. She is his real-life kid btw, and she smirks and challenges him at every turn in this role. Acts fifteen going on ten.

The Blacklist (2013) S10 E22
YgraineDance 2 points 10 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Red Dead, and (some) Redemption. Okay, I’ll stop lol.

He went out like a boss; as crazy as some of the stories he loved to tell about his escapades. Now people will tell wild stories about him and his demise that he did “His Way.” Glad he had some fun times with Weecha…but I never did figure our how they hooked up, since it was her sister that he had been so in love with. Oh well. Great series (especially after they got rid of that imbecile Liz Keen) - and a good job by all the cast.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)

A very simple plot here, but yes, it was action-packed and the bots were fun to watch. Pete Davidson sure was having a lot of fun with his character:-)

The Tank (2023)
YgraineDance 1 points 10 months ago.

I should have heeded the IMDB reviews. This film was dreadful - pedestrian, slow, dreary, dark, and full of the usual dumb-decisions-so-movie-can-go-forward cliches. I thought the better story would have been the one about the earlier generation, which got flashbacks as present-day events unfolded. The setting was nice, but I found the real-time family insipid, and just stopped caring what they did. Sorry, this won’t get my vote. :-/

You're Not Alone (2023)
YgraineDance 1 points 10 months ago.

This suffered from some truly awful acting, unfortunately. Some dialogue was difficult to understand; some was just nonsensical. The idea was kind of cool and drew me in; I assumed there’d be decent tension in a story about a person who, while many miles from his home, sees a calamity occurring there through his home-security app but is totally unable to stop it. People in the story make the usual dumb decisions, and yes, there are some glaring plot holes along the way, but I wanted to stick with it to the end. The writers have a little fun with the audience, so it isn’t a complete waste of time. It just could have been a LOT better (especially with better actors.)

I Got a Monster (2023)
YgraineDance 2 points 10 months ago.

This was dramatized earlier this year in the limited-run series “We Own This City.” I was happy to find this documentary, which is based on a book about Baltimore’s cop scandal. The authors participate here.
I just finished watching, and I have to say, the real story is even more hard-hitting than the dramatization, which is usually NOT the case at all! These cops were the uber-gangbangers, and they thought they were untouchable. They almost were! This tale is frightening, riveting, mind-blowing, and beggars belief - yet it’s all true. I’m glad I saw the TV series months back; things I recalled from it are included here and are made more shocking by the simple fact that the actual players and victims are present. Worth a watch!

97 Minutes (2023)
YgraineDance 2 points 11 months ago.

Rhys-Meyers always brings something interesting to his roles, so when I saw his name attached, I figured on some fun and exciting takes on a plane-in-jep plot. There are a lot of those around; some better than others, but with Rhys-Meyers and Alec Baldwin in the cast, what could go wrong? Well, this film does have some tense moments, some hard-to-believe moments, and several plot holes and a twist or two, but overall, you get the feeling of a pretty generic SyFy entry, sadly. It’s as if the viewer has come in in the middle of the tale; the minimal backstory that we DO get is choppy and piecemeal, and the story might have been more involving if we’d come into the lives of the protagonists a little earlier. Rhys-Meyers is the most captivating part of the film and he brings the whole production up a notch. I mainly stuck with it because I wanted to see his character’s story arc. Others in the movie, not so much. All in all, a one-time watch.

Nefarious (2023)
DanoJones47 1 points 11 months ago.

I don’t see any Law Abiding Citizen similarities— but maybe “Fallen”.

YgraineDance 1 points 11 months ago.

Yes, “Fallen” for sure! That was unsettling.

Nefarious (2023)
YgraineDance 1 points 11 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

I read someone’s review elsewhere saying this had a bit of the same vibe as “Law Abiding Citizen” - which also then reminded me of another demonic one, “The Devil’s Advocate.” Smooth, seductive evil that susses out weaknesses and inexorably worms its way in.

“Nefarious” somehow (well, due to that riveting acting!) manages to quickly ensnare you even though almost all of the movie is dialogue between just two characters. Sure, some scenes can drag a bit, but even THAT works, as we have to sit there and digest all the evil being thrown at the hapless doctor, and at us. One of the most difficult things in the world to deal with is having to re-assess all that you think you knew. That’s both humbling and more than a little unsettling.

Black Warrant (2023)

Not a terrible movie; I missed a lot of the dialogue (Spanish) because I watched a version with no available subs. My bad.

Simulant (2023)
YgraineDance 3 points 11 months ago.

Though awkwardly structured with sudden flashbacks and scene jumps (deliberately so, I’m guessing, so we’ll experience seeing a tortured, confused mind at work) this is an interesting take on the ‘androids will surpass us if we’re not careful’ theory. Though set in the future, we’re shown this isn’t too far away, with many older buildings interspersed with ultra-modern ones; with vans and cars of today (and a lovely old Trans-Am which made me tear up a bit, missing my own!) riding down streets, while holograms and company drones fill the skies. Kind of a fun ride, with a few slight nods to Blade Runner, Almost Human, Stepford Wives/Husbands, and more - oh, and a dog named Trotsky. Be sure to watch for an after-credits bit at the end.

The Black Demon (2023)
YgraineDance 1 points 11 months ago.

Not unwatchable; kind of had an Asylum-y feel to it, meaning some, but not enough, shark scenes, and a bit too much florid overacting. Characters seem to go from unhinged to lucid in the space of moments, it seems. Hard to really get to like anyone here except the little kid and the two riggers. Everyone else irked me LOL.
With “The Meg 2” coming along soon, we were sure to see some cheap discount shark stuff, I figured from Asylum. “The Black Demon” is made by someone else - but the night is still young. Don’t ever count Asylum out.😉

Motion Detected (2023)
YgraineDance 1 points 11 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

This had “fun insane house” written all over it, yet it wasn’t what I’d hoped for because it’s so tiresome when we’re given a nearly-nuts character who’s so nearly-nuts that the plot gets bogged down in endless questions about what’s happening and what’s just the nut nutting out.
All during the movie, this woman is just barely hanging on—-and that’s before the shyte gets going.

A lot more could have been done with backstories (the neighbors, the realtor, the company) and this would have fleshed out the plot considerably IMO. I’d like to have learned more about some of them, and I wish the tale had taken more time to do that. Has the feel of a cheap production. The conclusion is kind of expected.

Yep, it was a lot of fun, even if laced with gobbledygook-pseudoscience at times. The cast did well with the comic-book elements and kept us coming back. Good job!

Mrs. Davis (2023) S1 E8
grasshopper rex 2 points 11 months ago.

It was always intended to be a limited series and they recently made a last minute switch for Emmy consideration from the drama category to limit/anthology series, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t go the route of White Lotus and Big Little Lies who competed as a limited series before returning with new episodes. All the main characters survived so there could possibly be more adventures to come.

YgraineDance 2 points 11 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

Yes, it’s prolly wise to keep options open…and as you say, all the people survived—-and that rusty windmill DID start to move again…oops….:)

YgraineDance 2 points 11 months ago.

Fine finale to a very loopy, odd series of events! I’m assuming this is a one-season deal, but I haven’t looked around for confirmation of this yet. IMO they COULD continue, but I’m fine with things the way they’ve handled the tale. Some surprises (as always with this show!) and no complaints with how it all played out. This series, and “Poker Face”, stand as two of the best newbies I’ve watched this year. Such creativity!
